gbeauvin
I'm trying to diagnose a timing problem on my 2000 S40, and I also need to replace the exhaust camshaft seal, so I'm thinking I need one of thse cam-shaft locking tools. I'd rather not pay $250+ for a kit, and even just the one piece I think I need runs $100 on ebay. Does anyone know of a place to buy/rent/borrow one of these tools for a good price? thanks! -GB

mune237
You can easily make one with stock from your neighborhood hardware store. I believe there's a pic of a homemade one in the Haynes manual. I made one out of 3/16th material, but I suggest you use 1/4" When I was trying to loosen the VVT hub bolt on the exhaust cam, the 3/16ths flat stock in the cam slot kept bending. And the angle iron it's attached to....3/4"x 3/4"? I want to have all the materials ready. Since it's the car I use to p/u supplies, once I open it up, I want to be ready to make the tool. Any other parts? the bolts that secure it to the head?
