Gilhuly
You mentioned an aftermarket MAF. People have not had very good luck historically with non-Bosch MAFs. Any way to get your hands on a known good MAF?
krn
I'm also thinking MAF. The MAF on my 98 had intermittent problems and never threw a code. It would occasionally stall after a long freeway drive (in heat). Or after idling for about 10 minutes it would start to almost stall. One morning it just died. You can disconnect the MAF wiring connector and if it is bad the car will actually run better with it disconnected. There is also an old TSB on 98s turbos for the MAF connector. It is supposed to be cable-tied tightly to the MAF body so it doesn't move and cause intermittent problems.
