S70 T5 Whining Sound On Acceleration

The clutch on my A/C compressor is gone, so it makes a soft gravelly-scraping noise all the time, but also makes a whining noise like that in the same situations you describe. Mine sounded like the alternator, the p/s pump, adn the idler/tensioner pulleys. Except those are all brand new...so it's just the A/C compressor.

Also keep in mind that when under load, the timing belt setups in these cars do make a faint whining noise, even with all new parts. Could be that too.

thats what I'm thinking it is... mine made a faint grinding metallic sound while letting it idle today and listening.

replaced the PS pump yesterday... that didn't solve my problem... still whines.

My thought was that since my condenser is missing and I have no AC that it has compromised the compressor. My next plan is to take the belt off, and try a shorter belt and route out the AC since it doesn't work anyways...

Opinions?

PS pump? That sounds like alternator bearings to me...I've had two go out before and they sounded like that.

Get a piece of pipe or something and hold it to things and then to your ear. You'll help isolate the noise.

It seems the noise is coming more so from the AC compressor. Gonna pick up that belt after work and hopefully get it on tonight and solve my problem.
