matt b
Fired it up last night for a few seconds (to check for obvious leaks). CIS K-Jet is a nightmare but oh well.... Had two small leaks I fixed. Bled the clutch and the brakes using the Motive Power Bleeder. Turns out a Volvo master cylinder cap fits the Renault reservoir. Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr One line is clogged (passenger front). Aluminum line between the MC and the flex line to the caliper is probably clogged, it's common once they sit for a while. Looks like I'll be make a new lines today. Re-installed the exhaust after cleaning the oil out of it, the turbo, primed everything, etc... Got the wheels back on the ground after re-threading an axle for the nut (long story....) Rear section of body goes on today, new throttle cable, new shifter linkage and then hopefully a few easy miles around the neighborhood. Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr Starter heat shield is off for now, it will go back on ASAP.

matt b
Looking good, Matt! Thanks. I can't wait for the salt to be washed off the roads so I can go drive it. Clutch feels good, it disengaged well yesterday when I cranked it. Hand brake is tight now and should be able to lock up the rear wheels if needed. This thing is looking more and more like the car it once was.
lookforjoe
Nice! Is that #4 header runner super close to the rail? Looks like it's touching in the pic above?
matt b
It's the weird angle of the picture, there;s quite a bit of clearance all around. I was actually thinking or re-routing my water hoses to the front of the engine but the heat shield will keep them safe as-is. I started the car, it came out of the garage under its own power and a 2 month old SS fuel line blew out. Sprayed fuel all over the engine from the warm up regulator. I'm ordering a new line along with new crush washers (super specific size to fit a recessed circle on the warm up regulator) and will continue to work on the interior and carpet in the meantime. Bummer. If I get too impatient, I'll run a manual fuel pressure regulator and leave the pressure at 3.4 bars at all times. Start up pressure is usually closer to 1.7-2 bars. It'll hate me as it starts but it will make life much easier and cheaper.
854TGA+
Fuel warm up regulator Matt? I've seen quite the opposite, coffee can with coiled fuel line packed with ice. It was all rage when I was slalom racing my old GTI.
matt b
Fuel warm up regulator Matt? I've seen quite the opposite, coffee can with coiled fuel line packed with ice. It was all rage when I was slalom racing my old GTI. It's called a few things: fuel pressure unit in French, warm up regulator by Porsche owners running K-Jet, fuel pressure regulator by others. It's basically this POS, without the adjustable option.
matt b
Been chasing down a no start issue for some time. Found that I had pushed some old fuel out of the tanks into the K-jet system. Pulling and cleaning the tanks again tonight. Gooooooooood times. But given the weather for the next few days, it's a good time to do it.
lookforjoe
Was wondering where this was at - couldn't remember the thread title. Volvo used that same design regulator for 240T, 260 & 760 motors - a wide range of values. I think the 240TI (1985) version would the closest to yours... 854TGA+
You could also include 140's & 164e's. I remember the usual issue was a thin steel plate would rust out in them.
caanglin
Dad's old 911's also had that horrible K-Jet. What's it like sourcing parts for the Renault?
matt b
Dad's old 911's also had that horrible K-Jet. What's it like sourcing parts for the Renault? It's fairly simple. Not cheap, but simple. 3 good aftermarket sources in France (one company is owned and run by one of Senna's F1 mechanic), plenty of parts carry over from VW, Saab, Volvo and a few other brands. If you buy K-jet crap, you can get lucky. If you're looking for suspension parts, body panels, R5 specific items, you can get bent over. Part of me wants to yank the K-Jet and run stand alone but the value of the car would plummet. I will have the car back on the road for good by the end of this month. It's a matter of working out the kinks at this point.
woah4
Man this is so cool! I had a Renault fuego turbo my grandfather gave me that he had owned since 84, I know it's not even on the same level but it is so cool to see this regardless.
