herz3mc
Against the M? I didn't do so well the last time. Take your pick - you will definitely have a few more horses and torque than the M - that's for sure.
dmelviØØ7
Indeed. Josh I'd like to thank you for putting together such a nice engine, it was very put together! This is the second built engine I've installed in as many months and this one takes the cake. It made my life incredibly simple! It is interesting driving along at 20 in. of vacuum. The automatic never did that, so I don't know if it is because of the new engine or the manual. I am curious to see if my fuel economy goes up. It should, I picked up 3MPG when I converted my S70. 100 or so pounds of weight reduction and 20% less drive train loss.

Zappo
Good to know. It is the same as at idle. Take your pick - you will definitely have a few more horses and torque than the M - that's for sure. Well, I am more curious as to how the Evo stacks up to the M. I don't see having the power dialed in for a bit though. I hope to at least have it tuned well enough for the autocross. 260 miles on it now, so halfway there. post some vids. We will have to see if I can get some vids from autocross. Maybe some from the drive down to iPd, but we shall see.
mdlimy
Well, since the pistons are new and .020 over, I am going to assume that the block was honed and new rings were used. curious what your break in procedure is, hard? varying? i did a fairly light break in and am happy with the results but i think next time i will do a "hard" break in. Zappo
Most likely it is light. I haven't reved above 3500 and normally don't get into boost at all. Vary the RPMs. 500 miles for the break in, then I will start tuning. I mostly stay off the freeway so I can vary the RPMs more and there is more break in time, as opposed to miles. If it was just miles, I could knock it out in a weekend and be done. I have seen the hard break in stuff, but mostly it is done on motorcycles. Also, not many believe it works. fastwagonhawaii
My dad used to break engines in the same way as you, I used to get so impatient because after helping him build the thing i wanted to see it go. lol. To break in my engine I drove from Huntington beach, Ca to Santa Barbara drove around a little and came back on Pacific Coast Highway. By the time i got back my engine was broken in with plenty of variation in rpm, speed and miles.

To break in my engine I drove from Huntington beach, Ca to Santa Barbara drove around a little and came back on Pacific Coast Highway. By the time i got back my engine was broken in with plenty of variation in rpm, speed and miles. Finished my break in a few days ago, but a couple of things have kept me from doing much tuning on it. I didn't have much problem being conservative in the first 500 miles, although first gear was tough because it really needs to be run up to 4000 before shifting. I had some exhaust issues that if I got on it too hard, it would rattle quite loudly. Finally got that issue fixed. I had a BOV issue also where it wasn't actually working. I took it apart tonight and cleaned it up. There was some corrosion on it that was causing it to stick in the closed position. That is now fixed and it is working correctly. On the test drive I only got it up to 6 psi, but it felt more like 12 on my previous setup. I am sure some of that is the turbo and some the manual transmission. I won't be able to tune much over the next few days. Car goes in for detail tomorrow, and Friday I am heading down to Portland for the iPd show on Saturday. I will have my computer so I can do some logging on the trip down, but won't have much time to mess with TT.
