Well, there is no air flow when the engine is off, not that the amount of air passing the throttle would create a heavy resistance. Can't imagine what else you are describing, though.

On older Volvos, the throttle cable used to have the potential for metal to metal contacts - in other words, it could become a ground cable = very bad. This could lead to cables binding, and even electrical fires. All our cables are isolated from ground - you will notice that the cable retainer is plastic, the bobbin is plastic, the gas pedal is plastic and the cable ball end is held in a plastic seat. So, not likely that you would experience any binding or resistance while the engine is operating for that reason.

IDK how to explain it really...just basically when the car is off, its super easy to push the gas pedal, but once its started, the pedal is noticeably harder to push. When its raining, forget about it...even worse. Its annoying cuz sometimes I shake the car in first cuz the pedal is suddenly harder than usual. Maybe i'll try changing the cable since its a little eaten up at the throttle wheel and clean the TB again.

+1

Got one at work on Friday and installed it on my yellow wagon, like you said it is a night and day difference. I will be ordering one for my wife's wagon tomorrow!

After 3 swaps you would have figure I had already tried this but I never really saw any reason to, man was I wrong! Thanks for the tip.

yeah thanks for the motivation I'm going to order two. The 98R is OK but for some reason the throttle edginess at tip on the 850 makes it impossible to transition from no gas to gas smoothly. it's a little annoying and I imagine this would help that to some degree.

Ok, so my cable just showed up and I went to install it...BUT...the current cable in my car has a "connection" at the firewall to some type of sensor I'm guessing...the cable delivered doesn't...

Is this some type of Automatic hangover? Safe to remove?

Cheers

I noticed that there is much less roughness after taking my foot off the throttle and then putting it back on. With the automatic cable there would be a blip of sorts everytime I did that and the manual cable smoothed that out 95%
