Justin R32
Interesting read. I did notice that the throttle on my T5m felt 'stiff' from the 1st time test drive it. It's a factory 98 T5m. Maybe I'll take a look at replacing the factory manual cable. My T5m is a little stiffer than my 98R.
550
I got a new cable for my auto, and it was A LOT easier to move the pedal as well. So I wouldn't attribute it to the manual cable... That kick down spring adds no extra pressure as mine was not any easier to push when my kick down "holder" broke off the firewall.

gilber33
The pedal feel is night and day, it's not the ease of pushing the pedal down that is being referred to. You have much more control, especially when accelerating from a dead stop in first, it's WAY more responsive. I got a new cable for my auto, and it was A LOT easier to move the pedal as well. So I wouldn't attribute it to the manual cable... Has nothing to do with that in this case. I feel like the only people that are going to know what the difference is are those who went from auto to manual keeping the auto throttle cable and then went to the manual cable. It has everything to do with the manual cable.

caanglin
The firm-ish pedal doesn't bother me, does it fix the hanging / slow rpm drop?

NChoy
Maybe this is a dumb question, but how the hell do you remove the old cable??? I tried pulling, prying, comparing it to the new cable, but all I got was the electrical plug section separating from the black plastic clip-looking piece that's still attached to the firewall!!! From the inside, all I see is the black/gray insulation. Any nifty tricks to getting this old cable to release from the firewall???
NChoy
EDIT: Well, so much for saving the old cable... broke the clips trying to remove it. Too bad there wasn't an easier way to get it out.

AverageVolvo
Just make sure you disconnect the cable from the throttle body and the pedal inside and then rip it out like the Hulk. Worked well for me. MAKE SURE YOU ADJUST THE NEW CABLE BEFORE STARTING
B Mac
I did this a while back and it's a night and day difference between the two. Because you're using the bigger channel on the throttle wheel, there's more precise control over throttle inputs. A must-do for any manual swapped car.
