TIZIO AKA 1 HND MEC
Maybe this is a dumb question, but how the hell do you remove the old cable??? I tried pulling, prying, comparing it to the new cable, but all I got was the electrical plug section separating from the black plastic clip-looking piece that's still attached to the firewall!!! From the inside, all I see is the black/gray insulation. Any nifty tricks to getting this old cable to release from the firewall??? Push with a small screwdriver the four plastic clips, they are behind the rubber grommet by the firewall if you want to save the cable!! You never know......... sconeman
Push with a small screwdriver the four plastic clips, they are behind the rubber grommet by the firewall if you want to save the cable!! You never know......... exactly.. I actually left the white clip behind but I could pull it right out with my fingers. It's literally a 10-15 min job and FCP has the OEM verision in stock. Change in pedal feel is unbelievable. (just did this) thanks for the prompting!

NChoy
Push with a small screwdriver the four plastic clips, they are behind the rubber grommet by the firewall if you want to save the cable!! You never know......... LOL... tried that. Got frustrated, pulled hard and CRACK! The entire thing split in half. Then I had to use the screwdriver to dig out the part that was still clipped to the firewall. Ended up in two pieces, and went right in the trash. New cable installed so easily. Too bad I'm doing other stuff to the car, otherwise I'd take her out for a spin!

Aequitas_Veritas
Yeah thats for the kickdown on the auto. You leave it unplugged on the manual with no ill effects.
atefitty
I have some manual swap questions if anyone know the answers please reply.. 1. Should the plastic piece on the back of the shift fork be replaced with a new one? It sits on a ball there on the tranny and allows the fork to pivot back and forth. 2. What do I lube the shaft that the throw out bearing sits on? 3. Is this swap really woth all the work?
lookforjoe
If that ball cap is worn, then yes, you should replace it. The shaft is not lubricated. Read this....

Yeah thats for the kickdown on the auto. You leave it unplugged on the manual with no ill effects. Not sure what that would mean unless your talking about the cruise control, as it being a kickdown for the cruise control.
matt b
I think you're over-thinking a fairly simple change on your car. As Paul said, the kick down switch won't affect anything by being unplugged, mine has been that way for well over a year. You will lose your cruise control, but I added information in the manual swap thread on which relay to change to get it back. I've had mine working for 2+ years, it's a quick fix.
