--Aaron-- Posted June 28, 2011 Report Share Posted June 28, 2011 One of the things that is going to happen with the insurance money is going to be a nice 2 way all in one setup. I'm torn between Viper, Clifford and CompuStar systems. I know that I want to add a dual zone proximity sensor to whichever system I go with. Basically I want something that will 2 way page, start, unlock, lock, panic and pop the trunk. I'll be doing the install myself so if there's any pointers on which wires are where and such I'm all ears. I do know where the ignition wires are due to the device that was previously installed. Being able to adjust various sensitivity settings from the remote would also be a plus. My wife's Viper system is like that and it's pretty neat being that it takes some tweeking to adapt the alarm to the car's parked living conditions. (Being in the city) A remote with a nice display is a plus as well. I've never installed an alarm before but I'm pretty tool and electronics savvy so with a little direction things should go alright. The only things I'm a little unsure of is how to wire the starter kill, how to pick up the door triggers....I'm assuming a separate wire doesn't need run to each door but none the less it puzzles me a bit. If the system comes with a hood switch that's new to me as well. Although the hardest part there is probably aligning the switch properly. Educate me. PS, Steve, if you wanna help me I'll get us steak dinners. Most importantly I am so tired of my damn factory keyless only working with the remote held up by the driver's side mirror. It has a range of like 6 inches from the receiver on the cluster. If you need any other information or I left something out just let me know. I was talking to Steve about CompuStar a while back and they seem to be his number 1 seller at his shop. I agree, they seem to be good units. I'm sure he'll chime in with thoughts eventually, hopefully....he sure does have a lot of experience with this sort of thing. My primary audio experience is mostly related to subs and amps, there's a lot of things I need to learn about security systems. I've had compustars before and was happy with them. A side not, I have a Viper from another project that was never installed, which is what I'll be using, if I ever get a full day to work on installing it. Haha, my wife has a mid level 2 way Viper all in one setup with a dual zone proximity add on. It's a very nice system, the only gripe I have is the remote battery life isn't hardly anything at all. Ah ok, one neat feature about her Viper setup is that when the 2 way or 1 way remote batteries are nearing the end of their lives when you come within a certain distance of the car with the remote the siren will give a unique, very fast chirp to let you know. Normally can see battery life on the power meter for most 2-way remotes. Compustar features are only accessible via an authorized computer, or the installer handheld programmer(if you need to change a setup). The new 2-way rechargable remote seems nice, though I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Drone GPS phone add on piece is nice, but without a premium plan kind of boring. Prox's are gay, but get one if it makes you feel safer. Since you are doing the install, I would download both install manuals and see which one makes you feel more comfortable. Basically, get CompuStar add a tilt sensor and back up batt. Proxy is a no-no. The easiest cars to get into when people started using proxies were ones with proxy. Set it off ding dong ditch style enough times and the owner will shut it off. You can do this with shock also but it is more difficult and much less likely to happen. If you want more, add sirens and a glass break. I wouldn't go much beyond that. It should be noted that I have CS pagers in BOTH my 850 and SVO. My 850 has 7 sirens. That makes sense, the other thing about my wife's proximity sensor is that if it sets off the car enough times it will actually put the brain into some sort of quiet mode where it stops the alarm from activating because it's getting false detections or something close to that description. So no proxy then? And CompuStar seems to be the winner. How have your remotes held up? I'm just worried about accidently dropping that LCD, expensive remote and breaking it. Battery life decent? Agree with 95% of owned reply. 7 sirens? i cant judge because i have hornblasters on my suv, gps, regular siren and regular horn backed up with a pager. on the vert it gets gps, hadley 145db small 1.5 gallon air horn setup, whelen PA system airhorn, whelen 6 head strobes, regular siren, and horn. vert gets prox, shock, and tilt with battery back up (stinger 2150 battery in the trunk ) suv gets shock and thats all. you want a basically stock 155k+ T6...by all means take it! LOL I would go with this. Compustar Pro 901 SS Rechargeable system remote start/alarm combo add-ons Touch RPS...real cool piece battery back-up tilt sensor I would be selling that unit for $649 plus the add ons $225. extra features will be: PARKING LIGHTS only flashing, no headlamps flashing with arm/disarm if you do the touch RPS, you have a choice of led colors besides the stock blue color, depends on what is in stock.
