550
I don't want to go with transverse configuration. Engine stays inline with tranny and drive shaft. I will try to acomplished real rwd set up. Honestly, with a welder. I don't think this will be all that difficult. ANYTHING can be made. Just takes some time and some creativity. There is a decent amount of space behind the dash (where the heater core is... and won't be. lol) to accommodate a trans tunnel while still retaining a stock dash. How are you going to set up the rear suspension to accommodate the changes in drivetrain (FWD to RWD)? are the FWD cars' suspension balanced differently than RWD? You can do some work to the rear to allow a decent suspension in the rear. Really depends if you are going straight axle, or IRS. And it depends on the intent of the car. Like I said, just takes a welder, and some skill.
mdlimy
I went shopping today to scrap yard. Picked up 130 lbs of square tubing for rear subframe set up. 540 rear end is going in. Hoping this weekend but I am not sure If weather permits. BTW I work for with guy who buys and sells all kinds of volvo stuff . I can get my hands on as we speak . 2.4 lpt 2002 s60 engine , s80 turbo engine 2001 , 16v block non turbo yet 1992 . and all bunch of 5 cyl from 90's S80 turbo engine Is one of the favorites ideas . Now question. I was wondering if ARD would be able to tune S80 ECU and dis activate all the immobilizer crap and adapt cluster from S80 . Using S80 harness. Any suggestions? Always open for new ideas hey man, heres what im thinking. Why use the me7 s80 harness and ecu?Im assuming its so you can get away with not using the distributor that wont fit and just use coil on plug ign.... The extent of modifications and work you will be putting into this car deffinetly calls for something better than the stock ems, you need to go with a standalone, naturally i reccomend vems because i have experience with it and the price tag is very very reasonable, although there are tons of other options out there, but if you do choose the vems shoot me a message since ive got tunes/configs for the 5cyl and some experience with it. Love the 540i rear end idea, post some pics when you get started! whats your plan for a tranny if you go with the volvo 5cyl?

Gideon35T
I've debated changing a couple fwd cars into rwd. I like the 240sx rear end for the conversion. Same subrame setup that holds everything and simply bolts to the chassis. But initial price, replacement parts, and aftermarket parts are cheap. Plenty of gearing options for the r200 diff too. Vagabond
I like the 240sx rear end for the conversion. Same subrame setup that holds everything and simply bolts to the chassis... That's whats going in the back of my Z. Very minor modifications required. --------------------------- OP, this is an exciting project you got going here! maciekb2002
So after taking so measurements we came out with this idea . Welder was to weak for the job so it is only tack in the spots . Next weekend I will attack it with a right tool for this job. I think I will stick with those tires , 255 /18 , They clear both rails by 1/4 " , It looks like the body with stiff coilover suspension will not have to modified. I have to make brackets for the front part of the sub frame plus rear mounts need top plate , cross bar ...... Car rolls and it's looking fine !!! lookforjoe
Nice work! That rear setup looks very much the same as Volvo's - I guess they're not going to change that much. Is the rear diff rated for more power?

Is the rear diff rated for more power? I didn't expect that it will be that easy to make it fit , Engine and Tranny will be bigger challenge Diff has to be strong enough for 400+ hp. It will be replaced with LSD from M5 one day , Non om 540i came with LSD I am very serious about going with T6 from s80 with vems and e38 5 speed Next step is to install rear coilovers . I know that stock strud towers won't work
