It sucks the rear subframe from an AWD Volvo doesn't bolt up to the FWD body, otherwise this would be sooo much easier for you. All you'd have to worry about would be the front end of the car, and adapting whatever powertrain you use to the Volvo driveshaft.

The nice thing about using the awd rear end is it gives you an apropriate suspension setup and rear subfram setup for a diff and rear drive.

If it was me, i would be doing the awd rear end swap but ditching the shitty weak stock diff in favor for a differential with some balls out of an awd car, like and evo for example, some custom fab to mount it where the stock volvo diff sat and some custom axle shafts and you would have a fully stock original rear suspension setup with a beefy drivetrain.

Dont bother using the the stock transver engine configeration, if your going for rwd just cut up the firway and exhaust tunnel for a transmission and mount the motor the proper direction.

The biggest pain in the ass i can see would be modifying the body to fit a transmission inline behind the motor. but if your planning on using that s6 aan 5cyl audi motor this is the issues you will be dealing with anyways.

Yes, Idk who said it but the idea of swapping the crappy VC from the AWD for an open center diff and rear LSD was stated before, would be what i would do if i tackled a project this big. then i could retain a constant AWD system, the only significant loss you get from this is that your car is gonna run outta punch in the higher speeds, but if maciek keeps his current motor that shouldnt be a problem ;)

Now lets just say maciek wanted just RWD. Could a 700 or 900 series rear subframe setup be used?

There's no point when the IRS AWD will properly align with the 850/v70 body. The rear LSD diff is the same unit used for RWD applications! If you're mounting the motor fore/aft, then there are no BG issues, you just eliminate the DS/VC setup & make a straight driveshaft to replace it.

I completely forgot about the rear AWD subframe.............That would be the real deal for a RWD setup, just one question...how strong are the rear AWD axles?
