methan
Hey everybody. I noticed my passenger side tweeter (dashboard) stopped working. I pulled it out and saw the magnet fell off, because the adhesive finally failed. (The magnet was stuck to the glove box - had to fish it out!) So the speaker and magnet are now separated. My question is - can I clean up the mating surfaces, and glue them back together (and clamp them for a day or two till the glue cures)? It seems that it is very hard to come by a stock replacement, and I'd like to avoid buying an aftermarket speaker and modifying it; I don't have too many tools where I am now. (Anyone in the Knoxville area?) I've seen some write-ups about replacements, but nothing really addressing a re-fit of the stock tweeter. And if gluing is possible, any thoughts towards brand, or type? Thanks in advance for the help.
(n)A-GAME
I don't know where you got your information, but they're very easy to replace and find. My local junkyard gives them away for free! Personally I'd post up a want ad in the "wanted" section, anyone parting out one of these cars will have one lying around as they are not a high-demand (or high failure) item. Vagabond
I'm not sure if going with used stock tweeters is worth the effort, or if buying new OEM tweeters is worth the money. Here's an alternative using stock mounts.
Malvasi
Vaga, did you make those adapters? Those look really good. What did you cut those with? I have made a few sets and they haven't come out all that great...
methan
NA-GAME - Thanks for the help. Looks like they are easy to find after all - someone has already gotten back to me in the wanted section, saying he has a few lying around. Vagabond - That looks great! What kind of speakers did you use? Also, did you have have to modify anything? I'll keep figuring it out and let you know which way I go. Cheers! Vagabond
Use the stock tweeter mount- Gut the tweeter- Dremel enough to fit you new aftermarket tweeter- Wire it in- Everything fits back like oem- http://www.crutchfield.com/S-crFSZ8WsLQy/p_575R1TS/Rockford-Fosgate-Prime-R1T-S.html
andyb5
Here's a set of Alpine tweeters (part of SPS-600C components) in the stock S/V70 brackets: I removed the stock tweeter (it can be installed again) and used some 1/8" plexiglass (1/8" ABS plastic would be ideal, but I had plexi on hand) to fabricate an adapter plate for the tweeter.
