vary the rpm's. Its cast rings, they seat almost instantly. 100 miles and you can drive it fairly normal... wouldn't be a bad idea to have the oil changed at 500miles. AFter that, just drive it like you stole it

NOOOOOOOO!

New cars from factory come with "break-in" motor oil to help the seating of the rings and seals don't fix it when it aint broken!

word!

I use to be a tech at Volvo and I know most people get in the new cars and drive them like every other car, hard. They would justify it by saying "well do you think the guys at the shipyard that drive this of the ships are taking it easy on these cars? No."

If they'll do it try to get them to ship it on a truck. You might have to wait longer for it but I think it'll be worth the piece of mind.

I saw a video documentary once where they filmed the carpark of a carplant nearby here...opels I believe...the way they drove them onto the lot was just nuts...bouncing off the limiter, locking up the wheels under braking (heh no ABS)

They even had footage of some idiot braking too late and rear-ending a parked new car

Yep, theres alot of truth in that. Thats the beauty of using cast rings, like I said, they seat almost instantly.

Thats ALSO why I said it wouldn't be a bad idea to do the first oil change around 500 miles ;)

So not true. I've even heard salesmen say that, I've even heard salesmen who say they have been to Sweden say that, but it's total hype and a lie.

Bearing in mind I'm not that old but just talk to old people way too much...

Break in oil isn't used as much these days as it was in the past, if at all (I'm talking about cars, not tractors, industrial motors, motorcycles(?), etc.) because manufacturing processes and materials have improved so much and the lack of break in oils make that 500 mile change from the past less mandatory.

That said I don't even know for a fact that car manufacturer's ever used it. You can buy break in oil for your car, but who does that? I've heard of it mostly used in tractors and other farm equipment.

Could you explain this more??

Ask some old people.

I said you could change your oil after 500, do you need to? Nope. Can you? Sure.

On the motors I build (using OEM rods/bearings) I always change the oil a TON durning assembly/first 1000 miles. Im just anal about it.
