M66 FTW

The car is a turbo with fat TQ curve the extra shift will only serve to slow the car down. Especially in the 1/4mile where your going to have to make an extra shift into 4th if your car isn't slow as crap. The benifit of being higher in the RPM range on the next up shift isn't really as advantageous as it would be in a N/A car or a supercharged one.

You gain 150 lower RPM basically when cruising down the highway.. Yay!.. Oh, wait that is not significant.

You did a wonderful job on your rebuild.:) 1 really like the copper powder coating is it?

I too am getting ready to rebuild my t5 out of my 99 V70 R, it's been setting way to long. Blew the motor a couple years ago after letting a shabby mechanic rebuild the head. The guy didn't even set the cams right. Well it's water under the bridge now and I guess if I want to have something done right I do it my self.

I'm a gear head but am use to working on Gms or nissans so I'm kinda new to Volvo but I'm learning fast since I drove the car for a few years. And love it.

Well my first question is what's the best way to pull the head cover does it take a special pulling tool and where do I find it.?

I'm kinda anxious to see what kinda damage I did.

I also would be interested in what Manuel you used.

I'd be happy to share picture as I go along and learn for my self it can be kinda the Volvo rebuild for dummies" paperback, lol.

So what I have is a Stock t5 R turbo with some mild upgrades like better exhaust and intake a better controller from IPD

What I want is mild racing pistons, down pipe, stage 2-3 chipping and a bullet proof motor to pull 325-350 hp without ripping out the automatic tranny. Kinda the get to work fast fun work rig.:)

I'd love a little help here in my rebuild so if y'all have any constructive advise on to where to by parts, and what not to dos I'd seriously appreciate it. Also if their are other posts out there that you think would be a good read for me I'd love to read em.

Thanks in advance,

Heathster

This is the tool for setting cams and taking the cam cover off. The two long bolts with the cross bar are the parts that fit in the spark plug holes and hold down the head. You remove all the bolts holding the top on, and then slowly release tension, so the tension of the valve springs is released evenly.

Nice Carnage. Shame it chipped that other gear, or you might have been able to throw another diff in & be done with it...

The car's been sitting for 6 months?

Curious why you pulled the engine to get the trans out - do you have other work to do on it?

Car has been down for a little over 6mo. and I don't drive it in the winter. To me it is easier to work on everything when it is out. Down to about 2 hours to pull it with another body.

If it was just the diff I would give you my stock one for shipping cost. I put a Quaife LSD in before I did my manual swap, so the stock diff is just sitting on a shelf in the garage.
