Simple fact....Mr. Romney took a calculated risk that not releasing his tax returns would be less damaging then releasing them. The fact that he has still not released them is proof that releasing them would be more damage his election chances. Plus why would you have off shore accounts if you were not receiving a tax shelter?? There is no reason that I know of and please tell me different.

kevin, i'm going to pick on you, but nothing personal, i'm just using you as an example.

You, if anybody should be voting for obama. with your current career trajectory and thoughts of getting out of the service early etc , WHAT HEALTH CARE do you think you will have?

you're not in college( i don't believe you will qualify for GI Bill), your too old for you parents program. unless you find a good job( with current conditions, looks unlikely), you wont have health care at all.

vote your heart, but vote with your brain also. ;)

Since I have been in the service for over a year and a half, I still get partial G.I Bill. Depending when my DOS is cut I may end up getting my full G.I. bill, but other factors play into that as well. Basically comes down to whether I get out under Early Seperation or the DOS Rollback. The DOS rollback would allow me to keep my healthcare for an additional 6-12 months and I would get increased G.I. Bill benefits.

While Obama "may" have the right choice for me, I do not trust the guy at all. Based off of what I have seen over his term, I am not convinced he is the man for me. Romney either, I wasn't prepared to vote for him either in the last election, and I was glad he didn't end up being the Republican nominee. That being said, Palin was a definite POOR choice for a running mate for McCain; yet I still feel that McCain would have been a better president with all the experience he offered.

Nowadays, I feel like voting is choosing between the lesser of the two evils, as far as the whole Democrat vs. Republican debate stands.

You believe the current government/financial system might collapse, and so you wish to keep your money in another country. Just saying that you can't fault someone simply for having money in other places.

But do you actually believe that his money is not under some sort of tax shelter in those accounts....honestly?

Fuck no, he's dodging taxes (correction, I should rephrase this as "maximizing his tax savings"). But that's not my point. And if what he did was legal, it is completely irrelevant where his money is. It's not like he wrote the tax law to his own rules. I do believe what he is doing is probably legal. Anyone who thinks you can shame people in to doing the right thing is delusional. Ohhh hes a law-abiding citizen who isn't guilty of any tax crimes, the horror! What a terrible presidential candidate!

Also, your point sounds a lot like "empty your pockets, let me pat you down. IF you have nothing to hide, you should have no problem letting me check. Oh, you don't want your life dissected when you've done nothing wrong? You must be guitly then, let's just assume the worst".

Sorry, but most of the comments here on Romney's tax returns are of the "so tell me when you quit beating your wife" ilk. He used to work for a venture capital firm which specialized in alternative investments. These guys are highly paid to find the legal loopholes and take advantage of them through arbitrage, taking on calculated risks and other mechanisms. The reason why Romney's investments might look bad could have nothing to do with them being illegal or even sketchy but more likely because the average and even above average American wouldn't understand them and therefore it would be easy to mislead them.

Now I'll be honest with you. I don't give a rat's ass about Romney's tax returns and neither should you. Simple self interest should dictate that approach. Because the tax return discussion is a smoke screen to keep the public and the mainstream media focused on something other than the immediate issues that are facing this country. Substance is what matters here and what is Obama or Romney or your favorite loser independent candidate (if your name is Bieber) going to do about helping to resolve the problems this country is facing? No, he can't do it alone. Yes, he has to figure out how to work with a very divisive Congress that is hellbent no matter who is in power on scoring points and not doing much. But one of them is probably better than the other and the question is which?

Will you decide based on his tax returns, his birth certificate or on whether he's going to make you better off tomorrow than you are today? What's his record?

True, nobody can fix a damn thing unless the congress works with them. One big problem is the supermajority that takes 60 votes to pass legislation.....the other problem is the complete obstructionism on the Republican side of Congress.....I feel like it is borderline treason to vote against the health and well being of your country for the sole purpose of holding Obama to one term. The fact that many occasions Obama has put forth the exact same plans that the Republications did and yet they vote it down because it would look good for Obama. Yes I said treason because they are deliberately hurting our citizens for their own political gain!

I agree with that and I have probably stated it earlier in this thread. It doesn't matter who is president if congress can't work together on ANYTHING.

I don't believe that Romney has done anything illegal with taxes either. If he had, IRS would have caught it. Now, he could very well be avoiding paying taxes and the people might not like the way he is doing it.

But, it may not be that at all. Maybe he doesn't want people to know where his money is coming from in the past few years.

He is hiding something that he doesn't want people to know, we just have no idea what it might be. Whatever it is, he probably believes it would hurt his run for president.

I think the Dems already know what that is... they've got more bird dogs sniffing around his fields than you could believe. No rock goes unturned. With that being said, just wait for the timing of it all. They'll break it out at the most opportune time to get the most bang for their buck. Probably some bullshit (3 wives with big underwear) to sway the masses. The GOP is doing the same for Obama.

High drama - half truths - no integrity. With all of the big money flying around, it'll reach a fevered pitch by November.

Man, think of all the productive shit we could be doing with that cash outlay. It's amazing.

oh the billions that could be going to help the USA/WORLD/ education, etc is really disheartening

just look at the kock brothers spending 400 billion alone. think of what that alone could do for the world

Or help with national debt. But, I think you mean millions, not billions. Together they are only worth about 50 billion.
