I read it ALL THE TIME. Started reading it back in 2008 when Nate was just writing his own blog before he sold it to the NY Times where he now writes.

Nate Silver is the best man in the business when it comes to publicly publishing analyses of political surveys and the status of the Presidential race. He started off doing baseball analysis and developed the PECOTA system for predicting player performance and careers. So if you've watched Moneyball with Brad Pitt, yeah, he's like the Jonah Hill character.

He leans democratic but he always seems to provide a balanced analysis of what the numbers are saying. I trust him more than anyone else to explain what to think about the polls.

His balanced approach to judging the debates last night is just one example of how he tackles these issues.

i hope its a good debate tonight, and by that, i hope BO exposes all the flip flops by WR.

he can't defend himself with all the video tape evidence.

saw an interesting vid of WR from 18 years ago. he was telling a story of a family member and a back room abortion. he said would never get involved in a women's choice.

edit, i was just trying to find that vid but i can't find it. i just saw it on MSNBC.

Mike, how have your own political beliefs evolved over time? It's funny how we don't think a politician should be able to change their perspective and go digging deep to find stories / evidence that they once held one perspective and that it has since changed. And yet everyone shifts in their political views with time and experience.

I was once a very rabid conservative to the point that my Jewish aunt used to say, "Alain you have no heart when it comes to the social needs of people less well off than you." I've since evolved due to experiences in my life that cause me to look more broadly at what any proscription really signifies. I still don't agree with her that she should be paying more taxes to the extent that she does but that's my uncle's issue to deal with since he's a rather conservative man himself.

How carefully have you studied Romney? He experienced something while working as Governor that changed his perspective on abortion due to his understanding of stem cell research and he came to a realization that there were impacts he had to think about. He's not 100% pro choice and he's not 100% pro life. That's the truth of the matter.

This might help you find what you're looking for:

But this article is very telling in understanding Romney's evolution on this particular question:

My point is he's saying anything to anybody now

He was SEVERE the other day, do you describe anything he's said over the last 2 months SEVERE

It makes sense that views evolve, especially after witnessing results of previous attempts for change... but how and where do you draw the line between learning/evolving and just parroting whatever the general public wants to hear? Especially with a person who has every reason to do exactly that, where you and I really don't. And considering that he has the resources, writers, strategists, and researchers to come up with ways to explain almost anything.

Edit : Probably a bit late in the game, but can the poll have an extra option : "I'm not voting". Because that might change the outlook quite a bit to closer represent what we could see post-election day.

Quote myself as evidence of his rapid change

if you guys think this election is only about jobs, econs etc. you are sadly way off.

On the divisive social issue of abortion, Romney said it "would be my preference" that the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing it be overturned by any justices who HE would appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court if vacancies come up.

"Well, there are a number of things I think that need to be said about preserving and protecting the life of the unborn child. And I recognize there are two lives involved: the mom and the unborn child," Romney said.

"And I believe that people of good conscience have chosen different paths in this regard. But I am pro-life and will intend, if I'm president of the United States, to encourage pro-life policies," he added.

this has been a long term strat. to get the SC Justices lined up just right.

out of the horses mouth, inserting his religious views into policy.

This was an incredibly boring debate. Nothing of substance was really presented. Points scored on both sides but nothing fatal.

Obama was awake and Romney was acting like a CEO and not as much Presidential this time.

Both completely blew off the reason why gas prices are so high - it's not increased demand but commodity speculation.

Total bullshit that women's rights never came up

What about the human rights of an unborn fetus? I mean we have had a child survive at 21 weeks and at that age it is still legal to have an abortion. That seems pretty fucked up to me I mean how can we allow such things? I am pro-choice but late term abortion is murder period but somehow are still legal. Its pretty sickening..

Also, if I punch a prego women in the stomach and she miscarriages I can be charged for murder? UGH..... Wait... its not a human.. its a Fetus go make another one..

I do love the fact that most abortions...

my points is if they have their way, there wont be any, or it will be considered murder.

i'm not discussing when or how long. there is a clear attempt to discontinue the practice as a whole.

Abortion is not my only hot button, womens ability for Birth control, discounted meds related to periods, women's pay is another.

No one is trying to stop birth control but they are trying to stop government spending on birth control and meds why should I pay for your ability to not get knocked up? I mean its not like I get to sleep with all these women (not that I would want to but you get the point). The idea women making the same amount now is a good one but 10 years ago if I owned a business there is no way I would pay them the same amount if they were in child bearing years as your taking a big risk as an employer that you might have to go without an employee/find a replacement etc.. etc.. etc.. because of child birth. Now, basically both men and women get off so I don't see it as being as much of an issue since it effects both men and women. Also, the pro-life and pro-choice is a question about if you think fetus is a human or not. If you do I think you have a moral obligation to pro-life and if not Pro-choice.

Also, what if a Man is raped by a women and she gets knocked up.. Can we abort that child? I feel its sexist.. We should gut her like a tuna fish...
