Whoa Loss Of Oil - Pics Inside

Keep driving and let us know. cam seals would normally have the oil shooting out, or dripping down the head im not quite sure why that was brought up? But ptc def. was a possibility. Also, if you were boosting heavily it would seem like a turbo seal or valve seal. It could be a RMS but that would be very noticable under the car!

Thanks for the input. CAM seals look great. I have new ones just in case. RMS is a no, I looked under yesterday and it is not coming from there. Mainly down the back on the subframe. I also a CV leak on the axle that I am getting replaced. I will see what happens.

Doesn't mean they aren't worn. My 850 n/a burns some oil due to worn valve stems seals and it does not smoke (yet -- knock on wood)

So that would explain the oil on my subframe, turbo and "rear" engine mount?

No, it wouldn't. And that's what my comment to Alvin was going to be. If you're leaking it's not due to worn valve stem seals since we're talking engine internals in that case. However, that's not to say that some of your oil loss isn't due to worn valve stem seals. Fix the leaks and then see if you're still consuming oil - if you are then valve stem seals come into play.

My 93 850 N/A looked exactly like this when I was around 190k(at least the first two pics). I never did the PCV system on that car(or TB,had it for over 50k miles), and had to get rid of it due to a bad RMS. Needless to say I learned the importance of having a clean PCV system. Just throwing it out there, it might not be turbo related.

Burn-E seems to have it on point, The only thing really left in the back oil wise is drain bolt and oil filter leaking.. But again noticable! And as much as it might hurt valve seals do eat oil fairly quickly.. I would look into it after the axle is fixed. PS when my axle went bad on the passanger side, it shot up the grease to the top of my head near the coolant port on the right side, and it appeared as a bad oil leak. Also, check axle seal, its right under the turbo and in some cases the fluid is so hot it actually looks like a lightweight oil. It fooled me when that happened

You never indicated that there are oil dripping on the ground so i understand those oil stains to be minor compared to the amount of oil you're losing. I'm leaning towards the stems seals as worn because that seems the most common for our cars. A simple check. Let you car idle for 3-5 minutes and then give it throttle. See then if you see a puff of smoke out the tailpipe. With worn valve stem seals, I've noticed that long highway drives oil consumption is negligible but short, city drives with lots of idling, oil consumption goes way up. Our cars at this age is a hit or miss. One of my yellow is fine but the other is due for a valve stem seal replacement. I've put it off long enough. There's an excellent post on doing this job and I'm preparing to do myself.

I cleaned up the bottom and turbo area. The PTC was cleaned out also. I drove it to work and parked it on level ground to check the oil. When I got to work I got out of the car and looked for fresh oil. I did not see any but I was looking from the top down around the PTC area.

I'll clean the buildup off the top of the turbo every so often. I have been told that buildup is normal. Very rarely will I see an oil drip from this area. When the car is on a lift I can see the bottom is saturated. Go figure. I do have small leaks towards the front passenger side of the motor but it's a small one.

The oil going towards the distributor cap should be stopped with a new oil cap gasket.

I take you're not misting any oil out of the dipstick tube?

My rings are also bad and I get the bluish smoke out the tailpipe when I've been idling for more than a few minutes or while doing frequent, short trips. Like Alvin said though, long freeway trips and I have no symptoms at all.

Tricky issue to figure out and I know oyur frustration with this.
