Martijn_B
you mention in your previous thread to use the "original bracket," but you do not specify if the "original" bracket is the one from your car or if it is the bracket from the donor brakes. Kindly confirm as I am trying to understand. Great job by the way!!! Thanks, yes you need to use the brackets from the original larger 320mm calipers! Thought that was clear by saying: "Yes you could just buy the whole lot at the dealers, but remember that the calipers come without brackets. Really: breakers are your best option." Anyways, good luck Jeff, if you need any help just PM me.
Volvo5.0
Anyways, good luck Jeff, if you need any help just PM me. Thanks Martijn! Looks like having the center of the rotors enlarged would cost about $60-$80 in my area, so I decided since I have a brake lathe I would machine the hubs to fit the rotors instead.... Only problem is.... now the hub is too small to center the wheel Didn't even cross my mind until after I was done. I guess the excessive heat and a generator buzzing in my ear for the last 3 days, since I lost power, has caused some brain fade Will these work? http://www.ebay.com/...9122606&vxp=mtr Anyone know of any cheaper plastic versions? Dan A
Couldn't you just use standard 320mm rotors from an s60? Wouldn't that fix the bore issue?
Volvo5.0
Couldn't you just use standard 320mm rotors from an s60? Wouldn't that fix the bore issue? I've been searching here.... http://catalog.brake....Rotors&mode=PA for rotor options that would be a direct fit (without enlarging the centerbore). If anyone can find a suitable rotor on this site, let me know, I'll try it. The problem with most of the large diameter rotors is they are also too thick to fit the calipers. Here are the specs for the V50 rotors....
Bah
I guess my question would be, what rotors did Martin use? He didn't mention having to bore it out...but i can't find bosch rotors for V50s Hopefully you get power back soon, I can't believe it's been down this long, i guess i was really lucky to get it back the next day :x
maximumbuckeye
Will these work? http://www.ebay.com/...9122606&vxp=mtr Anyone know of any cheaper plastic versions? They sell some on amazon for about 10 bucks. Not the greatest though. One of them broke when I tried putting them in. But it did get the job done. Martijn_B
Yeah didnt mention that here, but I did tell Jeff in PM that he had to bore the rotors. It's just $60-80 bucks depending on your area and contact with a local shop. So: Brackets from a V50S40C70 Calipers from this same car OR a Focus ST (same calipers) Discs from the above mentioned volvo models, bore out centre to fit (like wheels from those models need spacers, discs need to be bored). Thats kinda it.....some technical insight and welding skills should get you pretty far! Yeah didnt mention that here, but I did tell Jeff in PM that he had to bore the rotors. Volvo5.0
Having to enlarge the center bore shouldn't be a big problem. Should be easy for most machine shops. Labor rates in my area are high, so it may be less to have it done elsewhere. I made one of the brackets today. Took some time to get it right, but the second one should be easy now that I've done one.... The hardest part of the process so far was finding the parts from the salvage yard. Erie Vo-Vo has always had the parts I've needed, but not this time. It took a lot of online searching and phone calls to finally find them. I thought they would be more readily available, but it seems the smaller brakes were much more common on these cars.

Volvo5.0
They on yet?! Since I machined a set of 850 hubs to fit the smaller centerbore of the V50 rotor, I decide to buy a set of hub adapters (63.4mm - 65.1mm). They were scheduled to be delivered last Friday, but the tracking # still shows them sitting in San Francisco.... ARGH!! I'm tempted to install the brakes anyway, since everything else is ready...... 98t5M
You will be fine running without the centering rings. Millions of people with aftermarket wheels on their vehicles do it everyday and in fact some vehicles are not even hub centric from the factory. Just carefully tighten the lugs in the a star pattern with the wheel off the ground.
