dneu
I am trying to solve my friend's 240 sw odd problem. The brake failure light is ON. I have checked all brakes - pads and rotors are Ok, no frozen calipers. Only when brake is applied a short hissing like sound comes from the brake booster. But brake booster works. When I disconnect the brake sensor on the distribution box (it is a ground switch), the failure light goes off and up-shift arrow lits on. Any idea what might might be wrong? thanks
dneu
actually, because it is a car with At, the arrow must be an overdrive indicator.
DevenlnNY
I've found this in some of the older Volvo's, there is a relay that controls the brake lights and when they fail, all kinds of neat things happen...including the light failure sign showing up. dneu
Yes, I corrected it, but it did not show up. Problem is not with brake lights but with "brake failure light" and OD indicator light. The wiring diagram I was able to download does not show any connction between the two warning lights.
Three Fat Tigers
Regardless of the shift arrow + bulb failure issue, the fault is most likely that the brake failure switch has been triggered and doesn't want to reset itself. This can be triggered during brake bleeding operations, or possibly when changing brake pads where you push the cylinders back into the calipers, but otherwise indicates an pressure imbalance between the two brake circuits.
