Frozen Kor.

DevolvR

Recommended Posts

My car is officially frozen now, Frozen Grey Satin Metallic in fact. I went for this color simply after seeing the latest C63 AMG Coupe Black Series in a similar painted color, I knew I wanted it for my R. Hexis now sells this color in 99' rolls, and is a new product for 2012.

So I spent the last 18 days doing this wrap, starting from a simple hood, to the fenders, and then bumpers, then the entire car. Being familiar with the R after doing Henry's Matte White, I knew this time around I needed to do a lot more prepping by pulling off certain parts to apply them separately. This included the rear bumper, which was done in 5 separate pieces for each detachable part.

I was at the Canadian Volvo Club Annual Family Day Meet where i took home the plaque for 1st in the S/C Category.

I'd like to thank Henry and Gabe for helping me out, there were moments where it was so tough where I was going to give up going to the Meet and simply hang up the squeegee, but you guys help me pull through it. Oh and Mikey (Rboy8), if you could post some of your high res shots, that would be great man!

Sore thumbs up man... and time for a new sig pic.

PS. Thanks Mattphi for your inspiration in both your car and your thread title :D

Will do when I get home, Alfred!

Saw it in person yesterday and it was done very well. Clean around the lines and much much better than Henry's R (but practise makes perfect!). Caught me by surprise too because I didn't know you were doing this . I think the wheels work better on your car with this colour too.

GTA Volvos represent! :D

Thanks Mike!

Yeah, well when we started doing Henry's I haven't touched vinyl wrap for years. So I was rusty, and the time of year as well as environment was not ideal, we were doing it in Henry's single car garage in the middle of frickn February and only a few degrees out. The vinyl felt like paper and was very stiff. Ontop of that, Henry never did a wrap before in his life, so that was his first experience. But we still managed, although it wasn't 100%. This time around, it still wasn't 100% ideal, but the working conditions were more favorable. Can someone make a utopian dustless, 22 degrees, air conditioned, and spacious vacuum for me to wrap stuff?

But yeah, I was beaming with stuff to spill with the wrap, but I wasn't complete so I didn't have time to show off any of it without looking weird or bad. It was a perfect setting for a reveal at the CVC Meet.

It's very interesting like color, but she was so beautiful in titanium grey with BBS wheels.

Yeah I know, but anyone can just go buy Mesh wheels in Tigrey and get the same effect :D

I've had the pleasure to drive it around having the wrap completed. Overall it's not much different than before, the color is subtle enough for the regular schmoe to overlook, but it grabs the car enthusiasts attention, I hope cops don't notice me more either.

Well, here's a bit more up close photos of problem detail spots. I've been getting a lot of skeptics and questions about how well a wrap can mimic paint. Here's some pics without any touching up directly from my smartphone. I apologize for the car being a bit dirty, but since I recently finished the wrap, I'm holding out til 72 hours before I do my first wash.

Any little bubbles or dips in the surface that you see was actually paint chips or flaws in my original paint and not the material itself.

Love the car, but the BBS rims in your sig are IMO much better suited for this car. edit.. congrats on the win!
