prancingmoose
Recently bought a 242 and I love it but its got this problem.... It has no clutch pedal and the trans shifts by itself. Has anyone here converted a 240 or 242 from auto to manual?
ARD - Lucky
I've done a few, pretty straight forward really. Any particular questions?

prancingmoose
Is the donor car really necessary? I work at a body shop so I have ao pretty good hook up on parts
ARD - Lucky
Not necessarily. If you're swapping in an M46 or M47 you'll need trans, clutch cable, pedal set, clutch set, cross member. I don't recall if driveshaft is different or not, been a while since I've done one. Might hit up turbobricks for some tutorials!
DVolvoguy850T5
I did a manual swap on a 67 144ES. This swap is easy. Just need the parts as previously stated. My 80 GT and 81 245 DL had brake away bolts in the steering column. I had to remove both bolts in the column in the 67 and the donor car to get the brake/clutch pedal assembly out. I imagine that the later models are similar. The cross member my tranny rested on in the 67 and the 81 and 81 where identical except the 80 GT had shims between the cross member for the transmission and chassis. The donor car I got my manual out of (BW M45) had the shims as well. I grabbed them along with the clutch ass'y and the flywheel. I paid $75 bucks for the trans, shims where free, and $15 bucks for the clutch brake pedal assembly. The new clutch disk that I installed cost 35$. If you go the jy route for the swap, I would suggest a new clutch cable (or hydrolic master cylinder as they are available) and clutch kit. ( pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and clutch disk) Also grab the prop shaft as it is different then the one in the auto. (I had mine custom made from Drive Line Specialists in Garden Grove, CA they are the best but spendy) All said, this swap can be done in a weekend. One day if you are mechanically inclined. (my day 2 was spent working out bugs) Oh, also get one of them clutch disk alingment tools. They are cheap and necessary. As previously stated... Back when I did my swap, I wish there was an M90 available!
