850_GLT_owner
I'm getting some play on my front right tire. Car pulls right, 9 and 3 movement so I thought it was a tie rod issue. Turns out, it is the control arm bushings being worn down. I put the scan tech POS in about a year and a half ago. I used the meyle HD arm on the other side, seems to be holding up well thought it hasn't had as many miles. I was thinking of using the meyle brand, but I just found out that FCP groton re engineered their control arm(which I didn't know existed in the first place). Does anyone have any experience with these control arms or more experience with meyle brand? I know genuine volvo is considered the best for these parts, but unless I can expect them to last much much longer(like 3-5x longer, depending on price) I don't see it being worth it since it is a relatively easy job. With that said, any feedback is welcome.
Dick Dastardly
Make sure no matter what control arm you use, you torque the bushings down in the loaded position. Tightening them in the dropped position will cause accelerated wear to the bushings.
850_GLT_owner
Loaded meaning when the car is on the ground with no jack support? Can the bolt for the ball joint be torqued down when the car is lifted?
cn90
Search for Lemforder or TRW control arms. They are the same as Volvo but at a lower price. Lemforder about $120. TRW about $95.
Matty Moo
I've used several sets of them without issue. They're actually the APA/URO arms. I had a set on my Platinum and they were still tight after 50k.
erikv11
Loaded meaning when the car is on the ground with no jack support? Can the bolt for the ball joint be torqued down when the car is lifted? Yes and yes. Either put on the wheels and drop the car down off the jack (makes access the the bolts difficult, it is a little better if you drop it onto ramps), or put a jack under the ball joint to raise up the control arm until it is parallel to the ground (i.e., at driving angle). Right about that point the car usually starts lifting off the jack stands anyway. The pinch bolt at the ball joint can be torqued whenever you want to do it. BlackBrick
if you've lowered your car, then at load the control arms will not be parallel to the ground. mine were slightly angled up like 15 degrees (from subframe to ball joint).
