You could just leave the gun somewhere kids won't get it... like in a gun safe.

Any parent who leaves a round in the chamber, especially on a 5 year old's gun left out in the open, needs to be made sterile to prevent future breeding.

You could limit a gun being marketed to a five year old also

That must be like how you taught your kids about safety and responsibility when they turned 12. No, you taught them young. But kids still make mistakes, which is why you don't let the kid actually keep and use the gun without your control. And as a parent, I'm sure you're aware of the similar and perhaps less controllable dangers to an unsupervised child.

The children's mother was home at the time of the shooting (like it matters) Tuesday afternoon but had stepped out to the front porch for a few minutes (ie have a smoke) and "she heard the gun go off," Cumberland County Coroner Gary White said. He said the rifle was kept in a corner and the family didn't realize a bullet (round) was left inside it. (like you wanted these people having kids).

That article was rubbish. I have zero problem with a 5yo having a .22 to learn on, but only a moron would not supervise them. That said, it was a .22 that was not only single shot, it was also a double safety rifle. You wanna ban those too Mike? Stop fear mongering.

Movies have a rating system for children, you vertically need nothing to buy a .22

I cannot take my 5 year old into a X movie, I can buy guns all day for him

You can buy your kid an X movie and show it to them at home. And you need whatever your state requires to purchase a gun for yourself. You aren't actually buying the kid the gun, it's still the parent's weapon legally.

Oh, and the MPAA is fucked up and not a good example here. They'll let your 5 year old see people shoot each other and cut hearts out and stuff. But god forbid (literally) him seeing what happens after bed time. The MPAA is also a private organization and their rating system is not law. The law says nothing about X rated movies.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA hahahahahaha, THIS^ is why liberals will never learn.

And comments like this is why people have a hard time debating things reasonably. Calling people liberals OR conservatives as if it's derogatory is the same kind of bullshit that belongs in the comments section of a local newspaper or youtube.

Oh the irony Chuck. So what about the break in at the Y-12 nuclear facility in Oak Ridge, TN last summer? As a boy I lived 5 miles up the road from this facility and can say that security by obscurity has been the greatest benefit for protecting it.

I had to search to come back and find your comment because I immediately thought of you when I came across the story. And it's hilarious now that I think about it because we're talking about one of the biggest storage facilities of highly enriched uranium in the country.

So a group of 3 old people (average age 65) hikes across a ridge down to this ultra secure storage facility, cuts through 4 fences with ordinary bolt cutters, and then proceed to attack the uranium storage facility with hammers and spray the building with with red paint and blood. And what is the security response? They send out one old guy who is 3 years from retirement (mid 50s) who doesn't even bother to pull a weapon on them let alone get out of his car.

I mean what is the response time there - 20 minutes? The gift to us is that terrorists are insufficiently creative and lack true state sponsorship.

Look up the actual status of that site now. They test old shit and are down to about 1/8 the size they are quoting in that article. Under FY12 I do not think that site was even listed as a logistical target. Hell Eglin AFB is usually top 5 and I can walk into the BX and buy a slurpie there, then walk out and piss on the AFRL building where most of our heavy bombs MOP/MOABs are developed. They even had an open house a few days ago

Check the start of this page. I wrote long details responses towards specific points brought up by Burn-E. However, in the end, facts are meaningless to some people.

Also, the use of proper terms can only be called derogatory when they are used with a derogatory connotation. It's like the difference between saying "Jew" and "JEW".

Derogatory - tending the lessen the merit or reputation of a person or thing. Niether word is derogatory. Additional verbage would be required to claim the statement (as a whole) is derogatory.
