Fudge_Brownie
looks like somebody ramming the gates or something like that now.An attempt to ram the White House gates ended with shots fired at the U.S. Capitol, senators put under lockdown and a female suspect dead, sources told ABC News.A Capitol police officer was also reported shot, sources said. The suspect was killed by cops near the Capitol following a high speed chase from the White House, along Pennsylvania Ave., the same route the president walks typically walks following an inauguration.A child was found unhurt in the woman's car, authorities said. The woman was not carrying ID and has not been identified. Police said there were no weapons found in the suspect's car.Source : http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/attempt-ram-white-house-gate-ends-female-suspect/story?id=20460948So...friendly fire? Burn-E
Friendly fire towards an unfriendly or disturbed or possibly lost and panicked woman. My guess is this was a misunderstanding with fatal results. I think this might have been epic to see occur: One agent in a marked Secret Service vehicle was injured when the car in which he was chasing the suspect was upended by one of the Capitol's electronic barricades as it rose out of the ground. flyfishing3
anybody there? we have some gun nuts here, we have some Texas people here. maybe? SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Several hundred gun rights activists armed with rifles and shotguns rallied Saturday outside of the Alamo in a demonstration that broke a longstanding tradition of not staging such events at the enduring symbol of Texas independence. The "Come and Take It San Antonio!" rally was intended to draw attention to a right Texans already have — to carry long arms publicly so long as they don't do it in a menacing manner. Organizers thought it necessary to offer a reminder after several open carry advocates were threatened with arrest at a Starbucks in the city two months ago. The problem remains that a local ordinance effectively limits the open carrying of firearms to police and security guards. That ordinance was not enforced Saturday. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus mingled in the crowd that police estimated at about 300 to 400, but the larger police presence remained around the perimeter of the Alamo plaza. Fudge_Brownie
School shooting in NevadaSo what? For every tragedy that makes the news, there's 1000 more that happened that day. Analyze the event, identify mistakes (if any!) and move on.Do you expect this to ever reach "zero"? Every school shooting is one you could have prevented? Won't fault you for proposing novel solutions, but I'm going to be pessimistic and say it's too utopian to happen in our lifetime.
caanglin
Who does this guy think he is? Shots a guy pointing a rifle at a crowd of people. He should have let the guy shot the people then call the cops. Doesn't he know guns are dangerous, mmmkay. This is ridiculous. http://www.azcentral.com/community/glendale/articles/20131020police-man-shot-glendale-house-party.html?nclick_check=

Fudge_Brownie
well i for one will never just be able to step over the bodies AND MOVE ON."Move on" does not mean forget about what happened. And I don't think those involved will ever forget what they saw, and likely be affected for the rest of their life. But why did you take the argument from an event to you were hypothetically present? So you'll devote the rest of your life searching for a cure that likely doesn't exist? How come you don't want us to prevent every single traffic accident? Closest to zero as possible... but at some point you have to acknowledge that you've reached the maximum realistically possible. Diminishing returns. And emotional people will say it's heartless to think about it like that. But they'd never give up their car. Your outlook on the world is tainted by your quest for a utopia that will never exist. Every news event just serves as a reminder.
Burn-E
You forgot. Mike wants to live in a fantasy land where all guns are banned or at minimum perfectly inaccessible to anyone who would either accidentally shoot someone else or deliberately use them to kill other people in anger. I like the sound of that utopia too.

But because that's fairyland...I know it's the gun debate thread and all... but let's say the kid came in with a knife. Or a home-brew bomb. What now? Kids know how to google. caanglin
when you guys going to wake up. Guns need out of the hands of the masses. ((waits for alden to say MOVE ON)) The irony of a military base... it's a "gun free" zone. "Hey someone is shooting at us!" "Just call some people with guns to help and wait it out. They should be here in time to put chalk lines around our bodies."
