Can Used Remotes Be Programmed? (2000 S70)

I called up the dealer about keys and remotes and they are CRAZY expensive like $120 PLUS programming just for the remote. Can I take a used remote to the dealer and just have it reprogrammed to my car?

Also keys, they are like $1XX at the dealer for the chip-keys in the 2000, anywhere to get these cheaper? My 2000 only came with one :(

Keys = ~$50 + programming

Fobs = ~$70 + programming

Well that's cheaper than my local stealer for the fob at least, but doesn't answer my question as to whether used ones can be reprogrammed...

Anyone know?

If we are talking '99 and later - NO. Checked with my dealer because I was getting new keys for the car I just bought, and came with only 1 key. I was with the shop foreman when he programmed my keys. He said you need the key id code when you program it, they CANNOT get it from Volvo. He has tried, and if there is any one at Volvo who knows how to get that code, he can't find them. I suspect Sweden knows, but they are not talking. Previously programmed remotes are useless UNLESS you have the code that came with the remote.

Dammit that's what my dealer said...

But I always assume a dealer is either dumb or lying lol :P

How about just cutting a key and leaving the original under the steering column? That way the computer picks up the original chip and use can have as many spares as you want?

I guess it depends on the area as my area I could leave my car unlocked anywhere I go without issue.

I thought about that, and I'm sure in suburban CT it'd be fine theft wise, but I just don't like to half ass things.

I know but it might be a necessary evil...

Yeah no doubt if it was a beater car not worth sinking money into. But this is a one owner that's had $8500 into it in the past 2.5 years alone so I'd say if a keys $130 I'll probably suck it up and get one soon.

BTW talking about the GLT I just got not the C70, that has 3 keys already thank god...

They can be reprogrammed but not by dealer.

Each FOB has it's own PIN number. The VGLA module in the car will only respond to remotes that are programmed in it's memory. However if you clone the remote to match an existing one then it will natively work without programming.

If you can send me a pic of the remote circuit board I can likely help.

Ya think the same would go for my 01 s40 Lucky??? My fob broke in such a way that the battery will not stay in place, tried a number of things to remedy but to no avail, thought about getting a fob from ikeyless for $70 but couldn't find some one to program it, could it be done with DICE?

Does this still apply if the originals are all lost? I'd imagine you'd need one to clone it?
