The Stoplight Racer Thread

This forum is pretty dead, so I've decided it's time to start posting about all of my epic wins in the XC70. My 2.5T based XC70 is MUCH faster feeling than the 2.4T I previously had, it has a nice exhaust tone (especially if you start in third gear with Winter mode), and it is fun to drive. So I am an asshole and use at least 1/2 throttle at every stoplight. Often times, this results in some seriously hardcore street racing to speeds as high as 40, 50, and sometimes even 60 miles per hour. The stakes are higher than ever, as if I lose I may end up stuck behind the other driver, as drivers sometimes change lanes and drive slowly in front of you. If I win, I can actually do the speed limit, or (if I'm feeling truly daring) 5 miles over, until I hit the next stoplight or patch of traffic. These are those stories.

Please note that I immediately let off the throttle if I feel the other car is trying to race me back, as street racing is dangerous and illegal and I do not wish to put anyone else's life in any danger.

1/7/2013 - Totally smoked a Ford Fusion SE. I was at least three car lengths ahead by the time we reached 45 miles per hour, where the lanes merged.

I out stoplight most Houston drivers when I want to because of decent tires, LPT torque, and massive brembos. However, I did 25 mph through downtown today and made 8 lights without braking once, laughing at speeders and lane changers.

I'm not even 200 whp ... but quite possibly 150 IQ.

Hmmm, my car stops alright as is. But anyway...

1/9/2013 - Spanked a last generation Nissan Maxima. He held on at my rear quarter panel after I got the initial jump, but confidence that AWD would keep me from squealing tires like a loser won this battle.

  • 3 weeks later...

Since I'm N/A, I never win any races, ever
Fixed that for you :P

Yesterday I totally destroyed my friends 98 Camry on the way home from lunch. I even broke the speed limit by 2 mph!

So I was at a stoplight this afternoon and a new Ford Taurus cop car pulled up next to me...

I revved my engine briefly, he turned on his light bar briefly whilst smirking at me and raising one eyebrow. I then proceeded to pull away verrrrrrrrry carefully when it turned green. Good times.
