Typing Speed

I thought we had a thread about this already, but I couldn't find anything doing a search. My new keyboard arrived and I feel sooo freeee. So I've been trying to get used to it using typing tests. Curious how people do? Any one type for a living? They can probably do pretty well.

Let's keep it standard : http://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english Use the same site. It's simple words, so it probably reads high compared to real world speeds. But I think it's a nice standardization, and there interface doesn't suck like so many of the other choices. Some include having to reach for the mouse to click a stop button  My high point is 105WPM so far, but my average is more in the high 80's/ low 90's. I think that will improve as I get familiar with this keyboard, but who knows. Maybe I'm just not that quick. Take a few rounds, warm up a little. Don't go with the first number.

Wonder how much ive dropped since HS... nailed over 200 numerical per minute, and well over 100 words per minute back then. iirc I broke the US record in both

I'll have to give it a go a few times and see where I end up.

last year I took a city typing test for a job and was only at 96wpm, but that was a corrected score after accounting for a couple errors.

Lamesauce

first try

Words per minute (WPM) 89

but ill try again after some breakfast and a shower

Need my IBM buckling spring desktop keyboard, laptop keyboards suck for trying to type fast and accurately. I hit 53 WPM with the laptop. If work was still providing Thinkpads I'd hit probably 80-90 WPM given the spacing of their keyboards is something my hands have become naturally accustomed to. I'm certain with the desktop keyboard I'll nail over 100 WPM easily.

I'm thinking the same, this laptop is iffy on typing, and since my C button is messed up any words with a C get two ccs. :(

Anyways, posted it in the pissed off thread but.

Visit the Typing Test and try!
im done, ill hit this shit later today because I cant break that dam mark, maybe ill swing by storage and pick up my desktop keyboard.
Fudge, id be interested if you could find a numerical key one, id have to get a different keyboard since my laptop only has the numbers at the top, but this was only a few years ago.

Not a terrifically surprising distribution so far. Looks like a grouping in the 60-area and the 90-area if you average them. Probably directly tied to the amount of typing spent either on the job. Keyboard's are funny. Laptop keyboards definitely suck, but a desk board can too. I think the biggest barrier to speed is whether you "know" the keyboard or not.

After playing around with it more before I went to bed, I'm not sure I can really improve much. And I don't think the limitation is my fingers. I simply can't think fast enough to keep up, I start thinking about other things. My concentration gets lost. My fingers keep going, but they're pounding all the wrong stuff.

I think the city typing test score is probably more respectable than any of these numbers here. It was probably a proper test, with capitals, periods, and more complex words. I do find its difficult to "read ahead" with this test because it is nonsense, where other tests use actual sentences. I wish this test would, because its interface is just so much better than the others I've seen.

yeah it was an actual program on a desktop with someone watching.

But same goes for the 180 I knocked out back in HS, didn't get a trophy for that one but did get my name on a few plaques

Capitals, periods, commas, large words nothing under 3 letters counted towards the score, and actual sentences.

If i cut my nails back all the way, break out a desktop keyboard, and take a couple practice runs, I don't see why I cannot break 120-130 multiple times if im hitting 104 with a laptop and the main errors being on words containing c's since this keyboard is over sensitive on the c key.
