98 S90 Oil Dipstick

Hey guys, I'm curious as to the part number and length of the oil dipstick used in 960/S90 cars, if any of you would mind checking for the heck of it. Measure from the bottom of the red shoulder that sits atop the oil dipstick tube to the lowest level mark and then total length. It appears some dipsticks may be longer, however the level mark indicators are the same length on the dipstick.

My concern is my oil dipstick is not right length. In my February 2013 S90 purchase, I changed the oil (added 6 quarts), changed oil filter (made sure old filter gasket removed) and checked for oil leaks, none found. The next morning when I checked my oil level cold, the level was 1/2 quart low.

My oil dipstick p/n is 3528487 and is 24 1/2" long, vehicle manufactured July 97.

I went to junk yard and pulled an oil dipstick p/n 127472 from an S90 manufactured in May 97. The dipstick was 24 3/4" long, however the level marks measured the same length as p/n 3528487.

No I found p/n 271670 may be the right part, but I don't know the measurements of it.

"Our 1998 S90 build in early-mid 1997 uses the Dipstick P/N 1270472. Just checked it." There's even one available on eBay right now.

Thanks, I'll order that one and try it. What's interesting when I search p/n 1270472, and 3528487 at online Volvo Parts dealers like below, those three part numbers don't come up. Only 271670 is listed.

That's the one I pulled from an S90 manufactured May 1997. Total length of 1270472 is 24 3/4" long versus the one in the car 3528487 which is 24 1/2" long. However, the level indicator marks are the same length and match up on both dipsticks. It's just that 1270472 tip at very bottom is 1/4" longer, which doesn't effect measurement. I ordered 271670 for curiosity from FCP Euro.
