I fucking hate loud motorcycles, however am fine with crotch rockets.

Ducati

Whenever I hear a fucking Harley, all I want to do is throw a log in their spokes.

The sound is akin to Taco Bell chocolate rain.

I dont mind loud motorcycles, just like i dont mind loud cars. Thing is, the loudness should line up with the power of the vehicle. IMHO putting a race can on a Kawasaki GPZ 600 from 1986 makes absolutely no sense. Also revving the sh*t out of it is something I hate.

I had a shortened Two Brothers carbon fibre race can on my 2003 Fireblade 954RR, nice deep rumble :)

They are the same as the idiots running open downpipe or straight pipe with no mufflers/cat on their cars.

Except that a motorcycle is, by it's very definition, a very extroverted statement of self. Four wheels moves the body, two wheels moves the soul -- some people's souls are just louder and more annoying than others, I suppose.

Very interesting reading opinions outside Cali. Most people I know here in ca like loud bikes. I hate it when those silent fuckers sneak up on me in traffic splitting lanes. I would much rather know someone is coming audibly so I know not to change lanes

It doesn't matter if their bikes are loud or not, people are idiots and will still get into accidents, almost every weekend (no exaggeration) there is a downed bike on pch near me. Its a split between crotch rockets and Harleys. Plus if they are swerving through traffic doing 60 when your going 20, they could have a train horn attached and it would make much of a difference.

I find when your sitting down to dinner along a street more dipshits in Harley's/cruisers are looking at you as they drive by, revving...I'd rather hear a civic then a Harley any day, I hate that noise that much

I don't get annoyed because I hear them in the car, windows up, radio on. It's everywhere else they are annoying. (mostly twins)

If safety were such a concern, everyone would be using strobes.

My doctor & cpa both ride Harleys. When will the outlaw image wear off?

I get mad when their bikes are quiet. A rider who cares if he lives or dies will make sure people hear him before they see him.

Pisses me off when a quiet bike flies past me on the freeway.

If I'm going slow and a bike is going fast I don't expect to hear it until it is next to me and scares the crap out of me or passes me. I don't get that argument.

Why do you need to know if a bike is sneaking up from behind if you are slow or stuck in traffic? They should be riding like they are invisible and if you open your door when they are flying between lanes of cars, gee, too bad for them :D

Actually, if needing to be loud was for safety and you needed the people in front of the bike to be alerted to the presence of the bike, shouldn't they mount the exhaust facing forward? I mean a jet engine is a hell of a lot louder from behind than from the front. Same for bikes. And frankly I don't give a rip if one is coming up from behind. I'm worried about turning left in front of some dipshit who doesn't care that his headlight is burned out or thinks it's cool looking not to have one.

Yeah too bad for them. My girlfriends Dad passed away riding. When a car randomly changes lanes and cuts off a motorcycle then fuck em right?

Absolutely not, but his point stands. Any motorcyclist will tell you the same phrase about riding as if you are invisible. And at any speed in which there is way for a car to jump out in front of you, the bike has to be unbearably loud to even remotely be heard. The exhaust points backwards, not forwards. Loud bikes don't save shit.

My dad's an avid rider also and his rules are:

1. I'm invisible

2. Everyone is out to kill me.

3. I'm invisible.

Motorcycles can stop faster, go faster than most cars and can get out of situations easier but the idiot who doesn't care to check his mirrors before changing lanes should be able to hear him coming behind him.

That said loud pipes do save lives by drawing attention. Noise is still audible in front of a motorcycle. For example you are in traffic and some kid is blasting his favorite new macklemore song about being being a cheap ass through his 4 12 walmart subs. What happens? You stare at him like he's an asshole. Now I understand your counter argument maybe well sub woofers are omnidirectional. Well my question and hopefully people do this research is next time you see a motorcycle coming towards you also ask yourself if you can hear him. If you can than sound must be of an advantage. Otherwise why put sirens on ambulances, why put horns on vehicles?

The loud pipes don't help argument is only valid if:

1. Sound doesn't travel faster forward than the motorcycle. Last I checked motorcycles don't break the sound barrier. So the whole exhaust facing backwards argument is ignorance.

2. We lived in a great world where people checked their mirrors and weren't day dreaming while driving.

Read:

These are the people that all motorist need to grab their attention.

Honestly though if you ride and you hate loud obnoxious pipes then that's ok. I just hope you don't have the same fate as my girlfriends Dad. Best of luck.
