Matty Moo
Michigan is going to attempt to pass a law against the exhaust thing, it's a shit deal though as they want it to apply to everything and not just bikes. I can't go for that.

I can't go for that. What's the gist of the law say?? Are they going to make loud[er] exhausts illegal? We already have noise laws, so I'm curious how they're going to change it as far as cars/trucks go. My exhaust isn't loud enough to warrant a ticket at all, but it's def not stock. Leo850T5
Yes but I am being a hypocrite because I like my cars to be loud.

I think it's just a house bill at this point, with the way they have it worded it won't be going anywhere. I don't see how it's even possible. When I looked it over it was incredibly vague. From what I'm gathering they're going after the diesel bro-truckers with the stacks and black smoke but don't know how to word it properly where it doesn't cover everything. If they came out with something just for that crowd just about everybody would be for it, the only people that think that stuff is cool are the one's doing it. I think some states already have laws in place that ban any aftermarket exhaust, period. They just use that law to hit up cars with ridiculously loud exhaust, or as an excuse to pull someone over. No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.Source: https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleXIV/Chapter90/Section16Given how quiet most factory exhausts are, part (2) pretty much makes every aftermarket kit illegal. But enforcement seems to still be reserved for those with obnoxious levels of noise.

Everybody has some sort of older or classic car, even a lot of police departments have some sort of muscle car that they seized and parade around in. It's been a awhile since I've seen an obnoxiously loud car, but the Bro's are out everyday either rolling coal or running straight pipes. When you see these cats it's almost always some dude that's about 5"4" and 120lbs. It's really perplexing to me being that diesels are so expensive and these guys always look like trash. Because it seems like they usually are. Same with antique-plated cars.

I can see them putting a law like that in place, and then using their own discretion as to who to pull over. Also, can you guys get special plates in Michigan for the older cars? For MD, 20 years and older can get historic tags, which exempt them from emissions testing and safety inspections (brilliant....let's exempt the ones that need it the most). Also, significantly modified cars can get street rod tags which, I believe, lets you run extremely modified exhaust. You can also get classic tags and antique tags, but I don't know what special crap that gives you.

You can get an antique plate on anything over 25 years, but there's a lot of stipulations with that plate so a lot won't run it. We already do have an exhaust law as far as noise goes, it just really isn't enforced to the letter of the law. It's kind of like the speeding issue here, it's been lax for so long that you have to be way out of line to get stopped. Ten over is the norm. IF you get stopped you caught their attention or it's late and they're hoping to snag a drunk driver. Inspections...we don't have them. They did tailpipes years ago but stopped, honestly I'd be all for actual safety inspections but the representatives in the Detroit area will never allow that. I think everybody is beyond irritated with the very small amount of diesel owners that have to be jackasses. My guess is one of "Them" got smoked while driving their Prius to Lansing and wants it to end. I don't see how they can make it happen, even if they went as far as having emissions again they still wouldn't tag them as most of that stuff is all tuned and can be turned on and off. rmorse
But again....if they just do a catch-all exhaust law, then they can specifically go after the people who roll coal. Of course, that's opening them up to go after anybody when they need the money though.

Oh it needs a new horn, and the ebrake needs adjusting? Cars gone to shit, need to get a new one ASAP.
