Network
Hi, For a period of time Volvo made available a 2.0T T5 branded engine. This was for specific corners of the market where strict taxation rules applied. I have seen these engines in S80's, C70's and S60's (wikipedia mentions the 850, S70 and S80 only.) This specific engine had an power output of 225bhp (or 222bhp according to wikipedia.) My question is... What engine was this specifically based of, and what setup was it carrying? Was any of the internals uprated? etc. Information regarding this engine on the internet is almost non-existent. I was hoping someone here on the Volvo performance forums could shed some light onto the subject. I'm sure it would do good for a lot of people who may ask the same question in the future, or who have already looked and couldn't find anything. Thanks! wizzard_al
Answer to your other post: If you can, try to find out what transmission is in the car. If it is the same as the 2.3 or 2.4 litre 5 cylinder, you won't have any more problem than anyone here in the states in pumping more power through it. If different, it would help to know which trans it is. "Lucky" Arnold, ardideas.com, tunes these cars. Don't know if he's seen a 2.0 5 cylinder, but if you can somehow get the stock tune to him, he can help tune it, and give ideas for changes. SNAAB makes an intake pipe from the air filter to the turbo itself, helps free up the airflow. Might look into that to give every little bit of help. With the short stroke of this engine, it ought to rev even higher than the 2.3 or 2.4 L engines. For this post, it is basically the same engine as other 5 cylinders, except stroke is 77 mm, instead of 90 mm. Other changes might be cams, but otherwise, aside from tune, it ought be nearly identical.
Johann
Pretty much identical engine as the 2.3 except for the mentioned shorter stroke crank. Also comes with a 13G turbo although I'm not sure about the 225 HP version. There's also a 210 HP version. Everything 2.3 fits the engine.
Kaspars
2.0 T5 for 850 has 210 hp 2.0 T5 for S70,V70,C70 has 225 hp No more Volvo`s had these engines. Those 2 litre turbo engines in S80 and S60 was LPT 2.0 with 180 hp i think. Some sa, that S80 had them, but i haven`t seen them.
nari
I have one uses slightly less fuel than the 2.3, on paper has the same torque... I think not... it was never as punchy as the 2.3. But it liked to rev to 7000.. for a while.. Actually there were R models with the 2.0 engine, that was the 225hp variant. The others are 210hp
Slevin
A few S80s came with this engine(225hp) in a short time period around 2000. most of them are in S60,S/C/V70 with 163hp (lpt) or 180hp (hpt) and fitted with 12t iirc. the old 210hp and newer 225hp versions called 2.0 t5 as mentioned before

Hi, these engines where avalible as options for the S60's / S80's in some countries. I have seen the 225BHP T5 engine in an 2004 S80. Maybe it was a dealership thing, who knows. But I know that they where used up untill at least 2006.

But they won't called R's (not the 2.0T T5 anyway.) My question is this... Is the 2.0T T5 (B5204T3) based of the solid/robust 2.3 T5 engine? If so, what about the B5204T5 (180bhp)? Is this the same as the 2.3 T5 or is it the newer more delicate engines? If it is the same solid base as the B5204T3 then I will be one happy bunny, as that means it is based of the solid 2.3 T5 which = ROBUST TUNING!!! Not only Italian, all countries, what had 2.0 Oh, ok sorry I thought you mean the 2.0 T5. I didn't know some countires labled them R. Well, I need as much infomation I can get on these B5204T3 and B5204T5 engines. If both of them are based of the solid 2.3 T5 and not the updated / facelifted delicate engines then I will truely be happy!
wizzard_al
OK, the engine is basically the same engine as the 2.3 engine, except for the crank being 77 mm instead of 90 mm stroke. Pistons are the same, rods, valves, springs, block, head, etc. Cams: engine intake cam exhaust cam intake lift exhaust lift B5204T3 9458202 9458203 7.95 mm 7.95 mm B5204T4 9458204 9458205 7.40 mm 9.00 mm B5234T3 9458202 9458203 7.95 mm 7.95 mm (S70 HPT engine 236 hp max) B5234T6 9458202 9458203 7.95 mm 7.95 mm (1998 V70R 240hp 16T turbo) B5234T8 9458202 9458203 7.95 mm 7.95 mm (1999 V70R ME 7 engine, 250 hp 18T, or 261 hp with 19T turbo) What this tells you is that the B5204T3 has the exact same cams as the B5234T3, the HPT 2.3 engine. The B5204T4 engine really gets me, look at the lift differences. Lower intake, but very high exhaust lift! I think B5204T3 is the HPT engine, B5204T4 is the LPT engine. VIDA says: B5204T (HPT) 310 NM between 2700-5100 rpm; 166 kW (225 hp) at 5700 rpm B5204T (LPT) 240 NM at 2700-5100 rpm; 120 kW (163 hp) at 5700 rpm. Since the cams for both T3 engines are the same, I'd say you found your 225 hp engine in the B5204T3. Unfortunately, VIDA gives me a part number for the turbos, but doesn't say which model they are: 12T, 13T, etc. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I never found the B5234T5 engine listed in VIDA.
