make parts easyer to get!  theres so many different parts for hondas and what not i wish sometimes it was that easy to pick something up for our cars

Ah, yes... but how do we go about making that happen Jake? Have them create a car that can be tuned, and that is desired to be tuned.... Then it will transfer into all Volvos

I would kill for a faster, more modern 940. 950, maybe? I like the 5 cylinder engine, and combined with RWD (with the obligatory traction and skid control for the safety nuts), it would be Darn near perfect.

I think Volvo are doing quite well at starting to target a younger consumer with the new S40 & the C50 will most probably be aimed there aswell.

Here in SA it's expensive enough just servicing a Volvo so there's not much going in the way of modding them simply because of cost & the options are very very limited.

We need a wider range of options for our cars!

I love the safety of Volvo's but the best part is that they're not wimpy cars either! They're awesome & it'll take a lot to get me to look at buying a different manufacturer's car!

Right now Volvo has several cars to choose from, it all breaks down by money.

How much money are you willing to spend to get what you want, that is the answer any auto maker would like to know the answer to. Saying you would spend it isn't the same as spending it.

New S/V40 50 is the entry level Volvo.

The S60R V70R is the mid to high level sportier vechicle.

The XC90 is the SUV.

and the XC wagon is the all wheel wagon.

The C70 for the rag top.

Pricing goes from 24K to 50K depending on what you want.

I think overall that new Volvos are reasonably priced. I wouldn't mind plunking down 42k for a nicely loaded R. What I can't justify is when you tally in all the ownership costs (depreciation/repairs/wear and tear) it seems that the Volvo's really lack value in this area.

Well, most european cars have this property as well. I guess it's the price for quality :)

rant time.

They market that they are trying to get the youth market. Well my T-5R is now 204,000 miles and I drive ALOT so I was looking for something new. or newer

I was thinking 2000 V70R or 98-01 C70 HPT 5spd, or new S40 T-5 6spd or off lease S60R.

I have been doing a number of things and currently have great money coming in, and that is only going to go up. Any of those cars are affordable for me at this point. So I go to look at them. Blah blah blah, know more about the car then the sales person at every Darn place.

But can I drive the car... NO! I said how do you expect to sell a car if you cant drive it. They siad come back w/ a parent! Right. I dont live w/ my parents, they are 8 hours away. So I asked, if I was w/ a parent could I drive it. NO. Well F that. I cant expect my dad to give me a good idea of sporty a car is, or how the the shifting and clutch feel is. I am 19 now. They said I could not drive anything till I am 21. So if they want to sell cars to young people maybe they should let the young people drive them. I am sure they are not going to have their doors run down by punk teens w/ no money just antsy to drive the new volvo. So what is the deal. I found 1 place to let me drive the cars, and I am going there tomorrow.

Haha, its ironic isn't it? We pay for a "quality" car which cost boatloads to repair and everyone else buys a "lesser" car and has nothing that breaks.

Luxury cars are known to have higher rates of depreciation. However, if you compare a midsize Volvo to a 3 series, C-Class or anything else in its class the rate is higher than its competition.

If you look at the R, it drops value like a brick in the ocean. People are taking hits in the high 30% range in just one year. Now compare that to cars like the 330 ZHP, S4, M3 and Acrua TL - which are in the same general class of cars you'll see how the Volvo is lacking.

This is why as much as I like the Volvo brand, for my next car I am seriously considering something else. Even with my extended warranty and light driving my S70 cost much more to maintain than my Mom's S-Class. The S60 has been alright but it is used so infrequently it might just be that I don't notice the problems as I do in my daily.

I know that some of this depreciation is probably a fact that most new Volvo's go for under sticker price. I paid below dealer invoice for both of mine. So in reality the percentage drop isn't as bad as it might seem going off MSRP. However, there are a ton of R owners who paid sticker for their cars and now are getting hit right where it hurts - the wallet.

Funny, here in SA it's Audi that has a really bad drop in value, big time! Merc doesn't seem to drop at all, bimmer's are a mixed lot depending on year etc.

The "lesser" Volvo's have more of a drop, like with any car, so it's best to buy the top of the range (T4, T5, R etc) but in general, they hold up quite well. What kills me is the cost of parts & servicing.

(PS, don't have a problem test driving them here. I was 19 when I started looking around for a car & every Volvo dealership I went to let me drive with no problems & we only get our licences at 18 here, so as far as getting a younger market, it's possible here)
