Tire Size/brand Suggestions For 17X7.5 Wheels?

Auburn T5

Recommended Posts

I've got a set of the 17 x 7.5 comets that I'm wanting to put on the car but looking for some suggestions on a tire size that wont' rub TOO much at full lock. I had 225/40/17 tires on the pegs on my old S70 and there was just a slight but acceptable bit of rubbing at full lock.

This car isn't lower quite as much but I assume it will make little difference.

Is 225 the ideal width for the 7.5" wheels or do I need to go for a different width? I'm almost positive that the OEM pegs I had were also 7.5 but I can't recall for sure.

Suggestions?

as far as brand, it's a daily driver/commuter so nothing high performance needed.. also cheap is ideal. Thinking Kumho Ecsta 4x, General G-Max AS-3's or maybe Geforce sport Comp 2's which my wife has on her A4 and I think they ride pretty nice and are quiet but Tirerack has those Ecsta's for $350 shipped after rebate... kinda hard to not jump on that even if they are inferior in some way to the others.

You should be able to get a narrow 225/45/17 in there.

Tire brands have different widths on the same size, varies brand to brand.

I ran that size (Michelins P/S2s) on my old 99T5, but they slightly rubbed in the rear because my MODA R6s offset was a bit too much!

I think with Comets you should be fine, afterall this was the stock tire size on a C70.

Do not runs 40's, too wide

215 and 225 are both fine, technically 215 is the stock size for an S70 or V70 but like you said 225 only rubs at full lock.

As for brand I can't help you as I don't touch all seasons with a ten foot pole... I'd do Potenza RE760 summers personally, very good value at about $500 a set in 225 size.

One of the top performers on tire rack's reviews in the budget category.

From the various forums I'm reading about these tires, they offer performance on par with the average summer high performance tire but with superior wet/light snow grip which I'm particularly in need of. We recently moved a bit north from where we used to live and we get a little snow a couple times in the winter. not enough to need a second set of snow tires but enough that the summer performance tires on the car now are terrifying.

Will update thread once they're on.
