survolvo
rules and regulations. i didn't ask to be regulated. i do not have a choice but to comply. i didn't vote for anybody to tell me what i can and can't do to my car and drive on roads i've paid for. You kind of did. You think the rules and regs just appeared out of no where? They are put in place by the "higher powers" Those ones that you did vote for (or didn't)

Commander Riker
I was making a lol, chuck. Metadata is not a phone tap, true... but isn't it all data in the end? VOIP is just data... just gets rearranged on the ends for listening. I'm not sure if I'm more worried that they are listening to all data or parsing it and saying only one kind is suspect, and should be reviewed. That is almost worse, IMO. It allows a loophole for people to hide data in other places, until it is used with malice and rewrite the laws to be all encompassing. Isn't that what we are really headed for though? Broad laws that cover everyone but those wearing the boots. America... the land of the free!! (well, used to be... but we will still tell the world we are for freedom!!{but we're not})

Burn-E
Metadata is not a phone tap. This is no different that LEO having access to LUDs. Thank god people are over this and we can go back to reading about heart eating rebels in the news. Except, they're not just capturing metadata. Wait what? You mean they're hoovering the content of people's phone calls without a warrant? Why yes Virginia that is exactly what it appears they are doing. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57589495-38/nsa-spying-flap-extends-to-contents-of-u.s-phone-calls/ And how long does that data persist once it's in their database? Forever. Why should you care about privacy? Because it's not about secrecy. You should care about privacy because if the data says you've done something wrong, then the person reading the data will interpret everything else you do through that light. Naked Citizens, a short, free documentary, documents several horrifying cases of police being told by computers that someone might be up to something suspicious, and thereafter interpreting everything they learn about that suspect as evidence of wrongdoing. For example, when a computer programmer named David Mery entered a tube station wearing a jacket in warm weather, an algorithm monitoring the CCTV brought him to the attention of a human operator as someone suspicious. When Mery let a train go by without boarding, the operator decided it was alarming behaviour. The police arrested him, searched him, asked him to explain every scrap of paper in his flat. A doodle consisting of random scribbles was characterised as a map of the tube station. Though he was never convicted of a crime, Mery is still on file as a potential terrorist eight years later, and can't get a visa to travel abroad. Once a computer ascribes suspiciousness to someone, everything else in that person's life becomes sinister and inexplicable. Mery's story: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/sep/22/terrorism.july7 Besides, the inventor of the internet says, "Obama, you're doing it wrong:"

Here is some free advice. Get used to it. Its been going on for over a decade, and they are not going to stop. Even if they do they will stop voluntarily just so they can start again whenever they want. Its like checking your self into the nuthouse. If you do you can leave when you like. Burn-E
It's funny how you're so blasé about shredding the Constitution which was established to guarantee and protect the rights and freedom of the people. It's as if you're part of the system. Oh wait... You forcefully state your intentions to support and protect your household under the Second Amendment given the castle and stand your ground laws in Florida and yet you willingly forfeit access to that which is inevitably more valuable in the grand scheme of things. Is terrorism really the greatest threat we have ever faced or is it simply a boondoggle by the government to secure access to the thoughts and actions of the public for whatever purpose they deem important? We have so completely blown the the threat of terrorism out of context that it has become the Soviet Union of the new millennium. The departure of a relevant enemy with the fall of the wall has left us with a new containment policy with new tools put into place to support the endeavor. Favorite tweet of the weekend by the way: If #Snowden really wants to escape justice, he should seek refuge on Wall Street.

Against twats. If the feds kick in my door I have no plan to complain. Because he is a normal person. No one gives a fuck until it affects them. No, for reasons above and it does effect me in my day to day life and job. Just do not care.
Commander Riker
Against twats. If the feds kick in my door I have no plan to complain. So are you not bothered by the principle of the matter? You just don't care because it doesn't affect you, eh? What if they kick in your door and claim you were a terrorist because you were competing with the government's friend in the private sector, and they wanted to alleviate any competition? That's the mentality that allows this kind of bullshit to exist unchecked. I can ride my bike with no handlebars... no handlebars... no handlebars...
