Mark my words, Evan McMullin is going to win Utah.  And if Hillary doesn't close the deal against Trump then Kevin will have his nightmare scenario with a Mormon President.

Go get yourself some education Kevin.  You're preening like an ignorant parrot.  There's a difference between campaigning on behalf of a politician and speaking out on a moral issue.  The latter is a foundational element of the 1st Amendment.  And such speech does not contradict the requirements to retain tax exempt status.  Religious institutions are not taxed as an element of that freedom of speech that drove our founders to revolt against England and the Anglican Church.

Let me re-frame it in a way that he'll be more receptive:

religious entities that do any of the following should lose their tax free status

-tell their followers who to vote for

-tell their followers how to vote in local elections

-push their agendas on TV/Radio (advertising). I've been seeing a lot of religious TV and Radio ads lately

-use fear to control their followers

among many other things. Lots of churches break these rules, and it really angers me

Kevin doesn't understand the principles considered for evaluation for a church and how that is distinguished from other 501(c)(3)s.  I'd itemize them but it will go right over his head.  You're right about #1, churches should not tell their adherents who to vote for.  But, they certainly can educate them on the issues and encourage them to vote against legislation they consider immoral and they are allowed to advertise and lobby so long as it is not a substantial portion of their activities.  Let's just state what the IRS has said on their own tax guide for Churches and Religious Organizations:

"Congress has enacted special tax laws applicable to churches, religious organizations, and ministers in recognition of their unique status in American society and of their rights guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. Churches and religious organizations are generally exempt from income tax and receive other favorable treatment under the tax law; however, certain income of a church or religious organization may be subject to tax, such as income from an unrelated business."

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1828.pdf

The reason for this is because it has long been determined that church-state separation is not meant to create a religion-free civil society or public sphere. Instead, its purpose is to safeguard our fundamental right to religious freedom, by limiting the regulatory powers of government and by distinguishing between political and religious institutions. Taxation is the power to control and to destroy and the 1st amendment is damaged when government has the power of the purse over religion.

As Hillary said, It's just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Kevin is not in charge of the law in this country.

religious freedom is a farce Alain, it's being used to oppress people that look scary and allows for racicm/sexism etc

of course you don't think churches should be taxed, because you belong to one. Can you imagine what we could do if even half of the churches in our country were taxed? We wouldn't have trillions of dollars of debt, I'll tell you that much.

how does it not bother you that religious institutions are telling people how to vote? Religion has no place in politics, and that includes churches.

Sorry that didn't contribute to the thread at all... ^^

Something that did bother me late last week... I am washing the R in the driveway and my loser 30 something neighbor that is married, and that idolizes my other fuck up of a human being single 50 something neighbor ask about his weekend and any hook ups... I hear "I trumped her" and they both hysterically laugh and keep saying "hahahaha funniest thing ever, I trumped her" etc. I'm glad my wife wasn't outside and didn't hear this... she would have thrown some fists. Made me angry though. Ok I'm done.
