FrankenMoose Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 So, my 2000 V70R engine seized awhile ago. I've decided to rebuild it better, stronger, faster ( 'Merica). I had another thread documenting the breakdown, but I wanted a clean thread to start the rebuild. Here's what I have: 2000 V70R with 136,054 miles. Silver with two tune black/grey interior. Modifications not related to the engine, but are staying on the car: Ohlins 8-way adjustable shocks front and rear.TME Sport Springs for Ohlins shocks.TME Strut tower brace.Ronal R39 18"x 8.5" Wheels with Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position XL tires 235/40R-18.IPD Swaybars and end links, front and rearIPD Big Brake Kit (front only) with stainless steel brake lines (front and rear).Porterfield R-4S Carbon/Kevlar brake pads with a set of R1-4 for track day use.Brembo 330mm High Carbon rotors.BMC/CDA Air filter and housing.Snabb Intake pipe.Custom 3" Intercooler with custom 2.5" RIP piping.Plus, various other cosmetic odds and ends. (http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/garage/vehicle/1421-volvo-v70r/ for more info.) How it sits while preparing for the new engine/transmission. What I plan to install: An B5244T3 LPT engine from an '02 S60. This engine is currently being evaluated at a local machine shop.An M66C 6 Speed manual AWD Transmission from an '04 S60 AWD. Arrived with no Bevel gear or harness. My plan is to build a 400+ HP engine (~320-350AWHP). I'm maintaining the AWD (hence the M66C). andyb5 Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Awesome, wagon looks really good, and I can't wait to see it finished up!
Simply Volvo Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Looks like you have a solid build list going so far. You stated you are building the motor to handle 400+ whp... does this mean you are trying to achieve this on the 20T? Because that will get you no where close to 400whp especially since you are AWD. Just curious as to what you meant by that.
TIZIO AKA 1 HND MEC Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 You forgot the Rods and fuel pump? and a bigger turbo..
FrankenMoose Posted October 22, 2013 Author Report Posted October 22, 2013 You stated you are building the motor to handle 400+ whp... does this mean you are trying to achieve this on the 20T? Because that will get you no where close to 400whp especially since you are AWD. Good catch. I did mean 400+ HP, ~320-350 WHP.
Smiles855R Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 You forgot the Rods and fuel pump? and a bigger turbo.. He said rods 3rd on the list of need to purchase, but did forget the fuel pump.
854TGA+ Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Don't ARP head studs require retorquing? What a PIA ie pull valve cover? Not required for your hp imo. Other than that, sounds awesome.
NEU Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Sounds like its going ot be fun project Jason! I didn't realize this was your R. And I forgot you had that all those goodies too, Ohlins w/TME springs , custom intercooler and RIP. Keep up the good work! I'm curious to hear more about the 20t upgrade too. Post up some updates on V70R.com, you haven't been around in a while...
floggingmike Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 very excited about this thread. I plan to M66 swap my '00 R eventually as well
Commander Riker Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 M66 swap is sooooooo rewarding!! Keep us posted!
FrankenMoose Posted October 22, 2013 Author Report Posted October 22, 2013 Well, just purchased a Clutch/Flywheel combo set from Kalmar Union. It consists of a AP Racing uprated clutch and a Kalmar Union lightened single mass flywheel. This kit is specially machined for the M66 transmission. Link: http://kalmar-union.com/parts/volvo-transmission/ So much for a budget build... lol Also heard from Autosport Seattle today. New engine's lowers, crank and pistons look good. Verified 147mm rod length and no damage tot he skirts or rings on the pistons. They should have the head off tomorrow; then I'll know for sure if it's a go.
Ol' Dirty Noodle Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Damn nearly $2k for a flywheel... I went with the viva and big bag of hope

And I forgot you had that all those goodies too, Ohlins w/TME springs , custom IC and RIP. Keep up the good work! I'm curious to hear more about the 20t upgrade too. Post up some updates on V70R.com, you haven't been around in a while... Hey Neu, yeah I haven't been on v70r.com in a long time. I'll do just that. LSD? Not this time, the Clutch/Flywheel combo just broke the budget. Although, a LSD will probably be my first upgrade after this is all paid off lol. Damn nearly $2k for a flywheel... I went with the viva and big bag of hope Yeah... I was looking at the SPEC clutch for half the price, but then realized I'd have to get the Flywheel separate. The AP Racing/Kalmar Union combo seemed the way to go.
