djchitown
Great place but they charge around $85.00 an hour for labor. He stays very busy there but does quality work.
leland
For the guys who don't like them, any recommendations? I'm new in the area and have gone to Orloff, but really didn't like them. Had a few new things break the day after getting my car back.
JBran
First off, I am not a complainer. And shame on me for not being one until now. I took my car here 4 times, and NOT once did I get an estimate for the work that was done even though I received verbal commitments each time to get a phone call before ANY work was done. The last time I brought my car in, when I picked it up it had on a new light on saying something was wrong. I called and let them know right away, then took it back and they wanted to charge me $50 to replace a fuse they broke the last time it was in. I was taking out my credit card to pay it when I diplomatically brought up the fact this was the FOURTH time they did work on my car without calling and checking with me first. Then owner then erupted at me saying "what - we are supposed to work for free? I don't have time to call you unless the repairs are over $50!" Huh? Then why no call the last time - when repairs were close to $300? Or the time before when they were over $100? Since when was there a $50 minimum price tag on doing an estimate? What sucks is that I really wanted to like this place since it's conveniently located and it's not a dealership. But I should have learned after 3 strikes. All the owner had to say was "I apologize, I should have called." But instead he started YELLING (seriously!) at me despite me remaining totally calm the entire time. Totally, utterly unacceptable. I highly recommend going elsewhere for your Volvo repairs.Ben Oktem Rating: 10 Comments: John is the owner.Excellent place to bring volvos.First off, I am not a complainer. fastwagon
Euro Autoplex:You guys keep on ragging on this guy and I'll keep on going there. They might take a bit of getting used to.But...* John is the owner and the head mechanic* They pretty much only works on Volvos now* I've met customers who have been going to John for years - two of them go there because their parents took their Volvos there and now they do* I've met customers who not only have been taking their cars there for years, but have bought multiple cars from him* He drove an 850R stock except for a black mesh grill for years and just got himself a new V70R (not sure of the year but think it's a 2006)* He rally races either his old Audi Quattro or a pretty badass looking AWD Evo in the winter up in Michigan and Minnesota* He does charge $85 and hour for labor but most of the places in Chicago that I would take my car charge up to $120/hr* He does not replace parts and do work just because the book says to - he does the work if it needs to be done and replaces the part if it needs replacing - he'll even get a used/reconditioned part for you sometimes* He's even done a few quickie repairs on the spot (no appointment, just drove in) for free*** Their best qualities may not be their customer service and people skills, but they will take good care of your Volvo ***
