Austin_Volvo_Guy
All, I have a 85 245 and have a misfire that i can not seem to shake. I have replaced all the plugs and wires 2 times with Bougicord, replaced the cap/rotor/coil bosh all the way, and even a nice used distributor off of e-bay Bosch as well.. I bought the car for 500.00, and the previous owner could not figure the issue out. I have brought this to a Volvo shop and they could not figure it out as well, one thing that I found that they did not is the IAC was bad so i replaced. now back to the misfire... this is really starting to irritate me to no end. timing belt is correct, and distributor is correct. any thoughts would be appreciated.. Three Fat Tigers
Might be a bad injector, obviously you can unplug them one at a time to isolate the cylinder responsible, unplug all four and check the resistance (ohms) between the terminals, all four should be very similar. Otherwise odds are high it's a bad intake manifold gasket, might test by spraying carb cleaner where the runners meet the head while engine is idling, change in idle indicates leak, Relatively easy to DIY switch out, and normally very cheap to buy. Just take the 13mm nuts off, loosen or remove the bolt from the vertical support (IAC is attached to it) and push it back enough to remove/replace the gasket. To help avoid dropping nuts, use a bit of paper towel over the 13mm socket before you put it over the nut.

Three Fat Tigers
Do you know which cylinder is responsible? Has there been a compression test, and do you know the results? When does the misfire occur, at idle, at high rpm, all the time?
