mags98c70
You can keep the ballasts and get new bulbs. Check: http://www.vvme.com/hid-headlights/hid-replacement-bulbs I don't have a current picture from the front with foglights on (only installed C70 HIDs a couple weeks ago). I do have this, left is 5000k, right 4200k. Keep in mind that the V70R/4200k is about one wheel length ahead. Thanks! Cheaper than I thought to replace the bulbs. Obviously, I'm very new to HID...Don't want to sound like a complete idiot. The kit that I bought is 55W. Do I get the 50/55W single beam? If you get more pics (facing wall with fogs for functionality, and facing cars for asthetics), I'd love to see it.
Fudge_Brownie
You want the single beam, because your headlights are dual-bulb set up. This means that if you only have a "set", you have to chose if you will have HID high beams or low beams. You'd need another kit to do both High's and Low's.55W in the low beam stock housings are probably going to produce a lot of glare for oncoming drivers. 35W cheap HID kits in our low beam housings, when aimed properly, are not too miserably blinding. But I think 55W is going to be. You could try aiming them down even more than normal to control it. But when you crest a hill, the headlights will be pointing straight at on-coming cars and it'll be like staring in to the sun.

The amount of power did cross my mind when I purchased the 55W kit, but I also figured that the 55W setup would keep the BOW light from coming on. Like you suggested, I was going to aim them lower in an attempt to prevent blinding other motorists. (Living in NY, I will be cresting many hills though). So what you're saying, is that because I bought a 55W kit, I have to get the 50/55W bulbs?, or can I just put in the 35W in the same ballasts? I don't want to seem like an idiot, I'm just not familiar with HIDs (This has now become HID-101 for me). I ask because I can put 100W halogen bulbs in the stock setup for more light...and I can put lower wattage bulbs in my living room to soften the light. You know what I'm saying? Fudge_Brownie
I ran 35W lo's and 55W hi's for a few years in my 98. Never once saw BOW.The ballast determines the wattage. The bulb will work with both 35 and 55. At least, that's how it is if you have a DDMTuning kit. And if you put 100W bulbs in your headlights, they might draw too much on the existing wiring, and melt or worse.Maybe pick up a 35W kit for the low beams, and save the 55W's for the high's? woah4
To be fair with all the different sets I have had I have never noticed a difference between 55w and 35w. Others experiences may vary Colour temp makes a huge difference. Wattage doesnt seem to in my experience
mags98c70
And if you put 100W bulbs in your headlights, they might draw too much on the existing wiring, and melt or worse. Haha, so I took a test run with the kit that I bought, and I noticed that I made more work for myself. Apparently, I put 100W bulbs in the headlights when I bought the ABM's. Melted the plug. Guess I'll be replacing that. Anyway. Took a test run, and they're not as smurfy blue or purple as I thought. I can live with it for a while. The pics show them as more blue than they really are. 100W halogen HID vs. halogen 10000K HID 10000K HID (from side, tried to reduce glare) 100W halogen from driver's seat 10000K HID from driver's seat (neighbors fence is painted light blue...don't use it as a point of reference, lol). Guess I could have focussed better too.

mags98c70
Has anyone using 55w HIDs in ABM projectors ever experienced melting in the housing?
lengendsecko87
Whatever you do, please do a retrofit. I run all 4300K. Pre FX-R
mags98c70
Whatever you do, please do a retrofit. I run all 4300K. I like the way yours looks. Really good light from those lights. I probably would have done a retrofit with projectors like FX-R, but my wife got me the ABM projectors as a gift a few years ago. Also, I had the old syle X70 lights, non jewel and e-code lenses. I'm really happy with the ABM's, except for the cutoff. Which will be fixed in a few weeks when I plan to do a bunch of work during my vacation. lengendsecko87
Replace the projector in the ABMs with FX-Rs or morimonot minis. Might take some work, but it will be worth it.
