thesameguy
A friend of mine has a nicely maintained '86 240 that is just finally giving up its wiring harness. Well, it's probably been failing for years but now it's bad enough to care. The car still runs and runs fine, however. As one would expect, wiring harnesses from 1986 are about impossible to find. Does anyone have any experience on swapping in a later harness? I have gleefully swapped rotted '85/'86 harnesses around on Saab 900s which use the same basic fuel injection system... sometimes little modifications need to be made, but I'm up for that. Is such a thing doable on a 240?
Three Fat Tigers
You can take an `89+ harness and modify it using some parts from an `85-`88 harness, but there is a lot of work involved. New harness is $377 from Dave Barton: http://www.davebarton.com/volvoharnesses.html#85-87_240_non-turbo If you have access to a donor car, it could be cheaper to convert over to LH2.4/EZ116, that would all be simple to install except for the speed sensor where you will have to pull the transmission and replace the drive plate/flywheel, and also likely need to cut a notch out of the bell housing at the top. FCP Euro
The harness can be a pain IMO to get out of the donor car without breaking a wire. I would just one from Dave and call it a day, but that is just me.
