Stuck Partially Open. Has Anyone Ever Manually Raised Or Lowered Convertible Top On Gen 1 C70?

So, I goofed and attempted to open roof while parked on an incline and I suspect I blew a fuse as it stopped suddenly and light on the switch went out simultaneously. Unfortunately fuse is located in trunk and trunk cannot open unless top is fully open or closed :(

So, has anyone ever done the manual raise/lower with the key and tiny crank? I hear it is a pain and I only have a Pdf of owners manual with grainy pictures so I am not sure where to begin. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Can you use the key to open the trunk it works on mine

When you get the trunk open its pretty easy just wind it down really doesn't take that long I made a tool with a 1/4 drive ratchet to make it go faster .

As far as fuses and relays I believe there all under the drivers side knee bolster or in the engine bay cant remember seeing any in the back .

Number 41-42 are apparently under the boot carpet in trunk, 1-39 are in engine compartment.

You mentioned when I get the trunk open: My boot cover is in vertical position and will not allow trunk to open BUT: can you tell me where I insert the crank and key?

Thanks!

Vic

Not sure what year your car is but I'm looking at my owners manual for a 2002 c70.It says it's a circuit breaker that should reset in20 seconds at the least maybe longer.Since yours is stuck halfway the first part of the instructions don't apply, You should be able to pull the top by grasping the lower rear brace and pull the top up to the windshield make sure you get the lower brace or you will damage the mechanism.Remove the cover at the front edge by pulling straight down Pull the top down to the upper edge of the widshield insert the the small tool (that's the little allen key thing) turn it 60-65 turns until the top seals with the windshield.Hope this helps, but just putting it up on an incline really shouldn't cause this problem.

Similar situation here in my '99 Convertible... After seemingly struggling for the entire 30 seconds that it usually takes to completely retract the top, my power top has now apparently died. Switch is non-responsive, orange LED no longer lights.

Reading the above comments from dc4all and cupdriver91, it sounds like...

1) breakers 41-42 are actually in the trunk, not at the bottom of the central electrical unit under the hood? Can someone confirm this? If so, it'll be a little tricky to get into my trunk with the top cover partly raised, but worth the effort.

2) the breaker should be self-resetting... eventually. I haven't found this in my own owner's manual, but maybe I just missed it. Will try again in the morning after the poor thing has had many hours to recover.

Would greatly appreciate any and input from anyone on this thread, especially if there's something else I should be looking at. The manual crank solution will be my next attempt if the breaker hasn't reset by morning.

Thanks, all.

Hi there,I took a quick look in the trunk of my wifes 02 c70 and didn't find any breakers. The only place they might be in the trunk is up against the holding tub for the trunk but I didn't want to remove the inside liner,if it was mine I would check for you but it's not and I don't want to be in the dog house.Sorry could'nt be more help.

Thanks for the reply. I dug around in there myself tonight, to no avail. I did find contradictory info that says breakers 41 and 42 are in the lowest two spots in the central electrical unit -- but it ended up not mattering. I took the manual handcrank approach, raised and the secured the top, and the breaker reset itself.

Unfortunately, the power top still doesn't work (the rear window raises, then everything just grinds to a halt), but at least the top is back in place and I can drive it now. That's a big improvement over last night.

Thanks again.

I don't claim to be an expert on the 'verts in any way,

but for the Gen 1's ( up to 2004 ), it appears that any roof

related fuses or CB's are in the fusebox by the windshield.

I don't believe that any Gen 1 cars have

any circuit protection at all in the trunk.
