So...hook a brother up with some rad towers doe...

I've always wanted to try building my own speakers. Just terrified they will sound like shit or I'll likely have a buzzing somewhere from my suspect craftsmanship.

Its too bad we're all so spread out. I go to a lot of stereo shows and speaker demos and bring the darker cherry ones w/ me, they rate very well. I've also brought the huge ones as well and those sound amazing too, but they don't have a very high WAF for most guys just because they're too big.

I can't wait to get my bookshelves done, what I have so far sounds amazing. They use the same driver as these speakers: Swan M3, only mine will be about $200 (plus cabinet material), and those Swans are $1750. I'll be bringing 2 different pairs of bookshelf speakers to a demo in Ft. Wayne IN this May.

What kind of audio engineering do you do?

Finished pics of the bookshelf speakers. My cousin listened to the rough version of the bookshelf I posted here earlier and loved them, but he didn't want to wait for me to build him cabinets so he bought some prebuilt cherry cabinets for about $120 each. We did 2 different versions, an MTM configuration for his fronts and center channel, and the TM version for his rears. IMO, the MTM is too big for a bookshelf and the TM version sounds as good, why spend the extra money?? The cabinets I'm building for my home will be curved, w/ mahogany veneer.

The TM (tweeter/midwoofer) cost $200 for all the components, minus the cabinet cost. The MTM versions are about $300. I called them "The Blues", I got the name inspiration from what I used to figure out the driver location :)

Crazy! Totally wish I could come check out the shop!

I mainly work with audio for retail environments. Primarily editing and QC. I'm beginning to track vocals more now for on-hold messaging, which is fun. I have a pretty modest home setup, but the fun stuff is at work.

Desk: JBL LSR305's and a LSR2310SP in the corner. Behringer FCA1616 interface, 1 Mojave MA-200, 2 Audio Technica AT2050's.

Critical Listening Room: JBL LSR2328's and another LSR2310SP in the back

Cool stuff!

I have a bunch of NHT audio driven by Yamaha RX V990...nothing too special. Polks, AR, too.

Am a fan of the old Onkyos.

Tannoy Precision at the office

If I had my elbow patches on, I'd be telling Mike how groovy my Altec "Voice of the Theatres" were... gawd.

"They could jam, man"

Nice pine floors, btw.

The floor is heart pine I harvested out of a building they were tearing down in Grand Rapids, was an old furniture manufacturer from about 1890. Originally the planks I took out were 3" thick x 5" wide that I milled into the flooring. Don't hype the shop up too much, its basically a glorified heated and insulated garage, I just have a lot of equipment.

I love the vintage audio. I used to have a Pioneer SX-1050 receiver for my music system, the only reason I got rid of it was no remote, and I got sick of dinking w/ cleaning the pots and switches because they'd get scratchy. But, that receiver sounded every bit as good as my current set up and looked better IMO. Kind of miss it.

Envy, if I could do college over again that would be my choice (audio engineering).

I am a big fan of both old Onkyo and NHT. I have some NHT VTs in my attic. And my current integrated amp is a vintage Oknyo Integra A-8087

Classic Altec is cool...Vintage JBL excites me more..

Tannoy's are true Brit elbow patch speakers AJ!

Done. Once they get flown in the church I'll post up some better pics. Next up is a pair of 15" subs in horn loaded cabinets once the church gets the budget.

Hey mattsk8, I've got an old Genesis 12" balances subwoofer I need re-cone'd... is that something you'd be able to do or know someone who could?

Yes, but shipping will probably be a killer on something like that. Is the cone bad or is it the foam surround?

These guys are good. I also have someone here locally but I honestly think these guys are better.

Obviously it's not on their list... guess I'll call them some time.

if its just the foam surround search on ebay and you can glue it yourself. Foam surrounds are usually cheap.. less than $20-25

Naw, it's not just the surround, that's totally gone and the cone is kinda warped into an oval... it's been sitting in a closet at my mom's house for the better part of a decade. Been meaning to have it fixed but never get around to it.
