Figured I would post here before joining audiokarma or an audophile forum, although I still might.

I have had a Harman Kardon 330c for a few years now and it has performed beautifully got it for $25 at an estate sale and has really warm sound and I love using it with my records.

Issue, I had a roommate who had a party about a month ago and I was at work and while I was there, they used my receiver with an aux cord for music, no worries. Done this 100 times, except this time someone turned it way to high up and blew something within the receiver. I believe this to be the case because the two external fuses in the back are completely intact but there still is no sound coming out of the receiver. Each of the speakers are still functional but the receiver is just not putting out any sound. There are so many parts within these things and I am just curious if someone has any idea where to start or something to look at.

Thanks.

Whoop, opened it up, found one of three of the 4A internal fuses close to the power supply was blown. Nice. Radio Shack it is and see if it works again.

I was going to say, open it up and look for the rail fuses.. You found em.

The Music Hall is amazing. I haven't had my main music system set up because I mailed my Carver amplifiers out to Hi-Tech in Portland, OR to have him upgrade and completely rebuild them. Once the Music Hall showed up I took the Adcom amp I use in my garage down there; the sound quality is unbelievably good. It's a tad hot in the highs, not sure how I'm going to address that yet. That area of my house has tile floors and a brick wall where my woodstove is. I'd alter a few things in my tweeter's xover to pad it a little, but I plan on remodeling that area of my basement pretty soon so I'll wait for that. I have a good EQ that'll work for now.

I need to slow down on the record purchases, I have 68 so far. I'm going to Axpona in April and they have a record swap there, plus Mobile Fidelity is going to be exhibiting. Still... so many records I want to get.

Glad you're enjoying it!

I'm getting back into browsing used stuff for a new integrated amp and also slowly collecting more records.

Do you buy new or used vinyl?

Both. I'll buy used for the ones I just want but I'm not a huge fan of. eBay is where I've picked a few up but I just started buying there last Friday so I'm not sure how that's going to work out. I only buy records listed either "excellent / like new / near mint" condition, so at least I have recourse if there's an issue. Time will tell, my first used eBay purchase showed up today but I won't be home to look and listen to them till later this eve; I'll report back on how eBay has worked out.

We also have a resale/consignment store, I spent a good bit there on used records. That hasn't really been all that great, about 3 of the ones I got are good for wall art, that's about it. I figure I wasted about $40 there, but I also got quite a few good ones. There are a few record stores here in Grand Rapids, but they're a bit of a drive from me and I haven't been yet.

I think for now I'm going to hold off on anymore purchases because there's a HUGE record swap this April at Axpona in Chicago, plus Mobile Fidelity will be there selling new records so I want to save some coin for that.

What integrated amp did you get?

Where do you guys purchase fuses online? Radioshack apparently is completely out of business so yea.

I think the shipping charge here is a tad steep for something that small. You could try Amazon too if you know exactly what you're looking for... http://www.parts-express.com/cat/fuses/1414

Thanks Matt. I just need a 250V 4A internal amp fuse. Tried amazon before on other fuses and didn't get the correct ones, the diameter was way off (they were tiny) so not sure how to discern the difference.

Another option too is try to find a local electronics repair place and call them. Odds are they'll have what you need.

So far (knock on wood) the eBay record purchases have worked out well. Except (and I hope Mike responds cuz I know he's a guru of sorts)... Do all the mid 80s records sound thin and bright? I thought it was just the used records I bought, maybe they were played a lot, but I don't think that's it. I have 3 that sound thin so far... REO Speedwagon, High Infidelity... Van Halen, 1984, and Bruce Springsteen, Born In The USA. Is this just how records of that era sound?

Not necessarily the physical records. Most albums have been remastered when re-released on cd. I think youre used to the remastered digital editions.

By the 80s records were being phased out.. And in my opinion a lot of 80s recordings sucked anyway.. Maybe due to new technology and tastes. (Remember And Justice for All was recorded with the bass levels almost non existent)

But there is stuff from the 80s still sounds ok to me on vinyl.

Still looking for an integrated, haven't really made up my mind on what I want 100% so I'm surfing the classifieds and seeing if anything in my list pops up.

I've found some decent luck on Amazon for brand new vinyl - I need to make it out to the record stores to find some more for sure though.

True. Good call.

That would probably be your best bet - I got lucky on eBay a few years back when I was replacing the fuses in an old Sound Project (made by Pioneer) receiver from the early 70s and got a whole bag of a very specific and hard to find fuse from China
