Fcp Price Guarantee?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Anyone have any experience with FCP's "price match guarantee"? Looking for a fresh air hose for my 740t, and the have an MTC unit listed for $66.95. Found the same unit on eBay (new, from a vendor not individual) for $28.05...

Emailed them, and they said they cannot match it because that's "far less than they pay" for the part. Didn't see any exclusions for eBay, and definitely didn't see any exclusions because they don't want to go that cheap. Maybe it's me, but I always thought a guarantee was a GUARANTEE.

I understand not wanting to take a cut, but the guarantee states they will match OR BEAT a lower price. Anyone have experience with them? Legitimate, or are they BS'ing me?

Thanks,

Joe

They gave me the same line on the upper torque mount they and IPD both sell, IPD being much cheaper. I got it from them for about halfway between the two prices anyway since I was already placing a big order and didn't want to deal with making another order and more shipping. Kinda disappointing though.

FCP does a pretty good job of managing and matching prices where they encounter them. Look at their price match policy:

Is it the exact same product from the same manufacturer? Is it the regular price (not a sale price)? Shipping conditions?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I did check the link you posted before posting here, and it SHOULD qualify. Their picture shows an MTC brand hose, as is the eBay unit. Price is normal price also, not sale or clearance. Not sure what they mean by "shipping conditions", but both are shipped from USA....

I had fcp price match a transmission torque mount, it was $5 cheaper at iPd (!) I brought up the price match and they partially refunded me $5,50, took no longer than 1 hour. Their shipping policy is that the competitor has to have cheaper shipping then fcp

Thanks guys.

I may just go with either the Bay hose or the Amazon unit (yes, that is the right one). I would rather deal with FCP, as I need a few other things also. Not going to pay almost 3x the eBay price though for the same brand part. Heck, Tasca has the Volvo brand hose for only about $23 more than they want for "economy" :(.

As far as shipping being cheaper, I don't even mind paying more shipping (if that's the case) through FCP. Don't see why that matters to match the actual part price though, unless that's just fine print to weasel their way out of matching?

some companies will offer say, a part for $30 + $30 shipping

FCP will have the part for $55 free economy shipping (which is the only one I use now, considering that all my orders are over $50, and economy shipping gets to me faster than the UPS option I used to pick

Its no different then best buy, sears, home depot. The other place has to be an actual retailer, not a drop shipper from a larger distributor that has a pre arrangement to sell 20k units for x price.

First off, that's like comparing apples to oranges, as those businesses have actual store locations. Sears will not match ANY online retailer. Best Buy will match most, including Amazon, Crutchfield etc. They'd be crazy not to, as the world is headed in the direction of online shopping. FCP is an online only retailer, so should be reasonably expected to price match other online retailers...

Anyway, as mentioned, Best Buy (and I'm sure many others) will match Amazon. As posted above, even Amazon has the hose for nearly $27 less than FCP. They won't even match that...

Problem is, it's not the SOURCE of the hose that's the problem...it's that their policy states they'll match or beat ANY lower price, but deny this one because it's too low.

The problem with FCP is the fine print in their bogus policies, like the "must be installed by an ASE certified technician" to qualify for warranty. I'm an ASE Master tech, so I don't discount the importance of ASE in general. But I've met some fine techs that were never even tested as well (such as my Brother) ;).

I've never had a problem is all I'm saying. I have gotten them to drop the price on a lot of parts. Most recently a set of rear tc's, fcp priced them at $53 each, rock auto had them for $49. They gave them to me for $48.

But then I've never went to them asking to give me something for less then cost.

Of course I'm not comparing fcp to best buy, it was an example.

go to best buy and tell them you can get a $650 sgs5 for $349 on ebay then tell me how well they price match that.

If you go to any reputable aftermarket parts site like eeuroparts or rock auto they will beat it.

They can't beat tasca or any other dealer cause the dealer sells it to them for the same price they are offering it to you for.

Ebay is ebay and seller stores will never be considered a retailer cause most of these people don't have to stock any parts or pay any overhead aside from their house hold bills.

Your taking the whole thing too literal, if you owned or managed a business you would understand. And I think your not seeing the fact that ebay isn't considered a major competitor

I think YOU'RE not seeing the fact that the response I received has nothing to do with eBay. He said they can't beat the price because he claims that it is "far less than they pay for it", which I don't believe for a second. Never mentioned eBay not being a "major competitor".

Again, they won't match Amazon's price either, which is a major competitor for just about every business out there ;). Explain that?

Rock Auto doesn't list the part, but if they did, you can bet it'd be less than $67.

Also, as I've said repeatedly, the eBay item is from an eBay store (not some private seller's home). Tasca also has an eBay store, as does Summit Racing etc. Just because it's an eBay auction, doesn't mean it isn't a business selling it. I would completely agree with you if this was some dude selling one of these from his house, but it's not ;).

Bottom line is, their "guarantee" states that if you find a lower price, they'll match it or beat it. Doesn't say in the fine print that they'll only match so much because they still want to make a killing on you.

Half of those ebay stores are run out of somebody's house or garage. Anybody can set one up.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't consider eBay to be a competitor to any legit online or brick and mortar business. It is a retail outlet of sorts as much as a flea market is a retail outlet. I sell quite a bit on eBay and actually discourage anybody from buying anything on there if they can help it.

Thanks Matt. I see what you guys are saying, just not sure why the won't match Amazon either...

Just seems they should consider changing the wording of the "guarantee" if there are this many stipulations ;).
