Save Your Reciepts! Warranty Success Story

I've had my '96 855T for 12 years now...it just keeps on going

That said, back in May of '06 I did a lot of work to it, which included a set of Koni Sport shocks and struts. Fast forwards to now. The struts have actually rotted away, and oil seeped out of them. They lost damping and were structurally inept. Rear shocks are also rotted, leak and lost damping...

I contacted FCP Euro (where I originally bought them) and they helped me getting warranty replacement shocks & struts. How cool is that?

Very cool! Have you already got the replacements or is this still in the works? What proof did they need to see that the shocks were shot?

I was going to try the same thing with my front Bilstein TCs; they're noticeably softer now than they were a couple of years ago. Not leaking oil that I've noticed, just not dampening like they should. Can really notice it going over speed bumps. They're only 4 years old; maybe 40-50k miles on them. Got them from IPD.

I think if you can prove you are the initial purchaser (the receipt also should have the car you bought it for) you get free replacements for life. Check out the warranty on their website. I think I've actually heard of people getting away with it without the proof of purchase.

ok so is it just me or does not anyone else have this thought: "how long can we reasonably expect any strut to last?"

i mean cereally folks. anything with moving parts that is not solid state is going to deteriorate & fail eventually. i'm happy that OP got free replacement but i cereally doubt that most companies will replace for free after so many years. OP's struts are 7 years old.

over?

a perfect illustration of the underlying principle at work here is this: a lot of folks on here were having troubles with their A/C compressors swtiching off intermittently. turns out the clutch gap on the compressor changes so somebody came up with a "solution" of sticking things in the clutch gap. it apparently works . but ask yourself this: when someone...a mechanic...anybody says a part "lasts forever" on these, do you really believe this? i shirley hope not. to top this off: yes: the sticking things in the clutch gap with gorilla glue might work for a time but the real solution is to replace the fucking compressor. why? because it has moving parts.

see what i'm getting at? roger over. Cpt. Under Pants, out.

I think Macbeth said it best and it fits perfectly after your rant.

"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing."

I contacted FCP, told them what was up, sent the fronts in, and got replacements ina couple days.

When doing the rear brakes, I saw one rear had oil oozing out the top from where the now rotted top metal "cover" is. I forwarded a pic to FCP, and Kyle said to send them in. FCP just got the shocks yesterday. Kyle and the FCP crew are great to deal with.

Here's the left rear shock after 8 years of New England driving...
