Fitting Much Larger Tires On X70?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I'm starting to look towards my next winter setup and I've been taking inspiration from >this older thread, specifically this photo of V70XC jacked up on big tires:

The OP mentions, "Rubbed like a mofo until some things were tweaked and all is well." Any suggestions as to how to avoid rubbing? my thoughts so far have been Bilstein struts and shocks, XC springs up front and IPD overload springs in the rear. Any chance this might fit with the stock V70 GLT springs (instead of XC if I can't find them)? Has anyone done similar or have an idea of what kind of rubbing issues I should expect?

Appreciate the input!!

This is the tire getting me all excited for the project. OP used 205/70/15. Quite a bit larger than stock

You could build a DIY coilover (search for a step by step walk-thru) but use a taller (12") spring, rather than an 8" spring like most people use. This would let you choose both ride height and spring rate to dial in ride quality.

IPD overload springs will not work on any AWD...

You need start looking into AWD suspension set up, ie the things it take to lower the AWD is going to be close to what is needed to lift it. It would require either coil spacers, doing a taller spring swap for the rear and lower Nivo mount flip (where it mounts to the top of the A-arm vs. the bottom) and do some Nivo spacers like lowering. For the front you could add coil spacers or have a custome strut top spacer made. All of which aren't easy or cheap, especially if you don't know what you have to work with. And if you try to lift the rear too much positive camber is going to be an issue and there is no adjustment for it.

A good place to start would be v70R.com IIRC there was a thread about lifting a vR where this was all mentioned...

Not a half bad idea, I will investigate.

A lot of food for thought here, will have to look into these options. The picture of the XC was just to illustrate what I'm after, my wagon is FWD so I don't to worry as much about rear.

Thank you both for the insights!
