Flip Key Conversion For X70 & X40

Thanks, I"ll have to check with my local B&M locksmiths. My two nearest dealerships are 30-40 minutes away and I have no way to get there during their business hours.

Edit: 2 local locksmiths both quoted me $35, and that was with my self-provided key blank.

Most will not cut a key like ours because of the thickness.

At least I have yet to find an Ace hardware, Lowes, Home Depot, that will cut it.

My local dealership gets about $5-$8 to cut a key and that includes the fob for my 98.

Ok here's my issue, my fob is broken internally. the plastic lip that retains the battery is chipped so the battery won't hold a good proper contact, tried shimming it, taping it, nothing works.

So before I even think about this I'd need a new fob from the dealer, believe they want around $250 all said and done. They also said they can't program third party replacement fobs like the ones on ikeyless for $69.95

So my question is would I be able to to program one of these ikeyless fobs myself with DICE? Really wanna have the fob back for the S40 and really want it to be a switchblade

Hmm, let me look that up for you.

Edit:

Looks like it's similar to how its done for the P80 platform after '98. Pairing a remote to a car requires a software download and matching PIN code. Parts number for the software should be #9139878 for an '01 S40 with US market code, PIN code comes on the back of the remote packaging. You know, when you buy your remote new at the dealer...

(When buying a new remote from the dealer ALWAYS keep the packaging, this way you can pair the remote to another car with just a software download)

Immobilizer equipped cars require a software download to pair a new key to your car as well. Used keys can not be reprogrammed, at least not without some fiddeling.

tl,dr: You can program your own keys and fobs if you are able to download software from Volvo. Would probably be cheaper to take your remote apart, fix the fault and put everything together again using a new casing.

To get back on topic... I received my 4-button kit today. I ended up using the OEM rubber seal because the one that came with the kit would not let the two halves join properly(the fob button would not make full contact with the microswitch underneath). Other than that, I'm reasonably happy with the kit.

didnt say anything like that so i didnt know if they had a laser key cutter at the dealership.. most dont when they can just order the key already cut from volvo im pretty sure a key blank and a cut one to the spesific vin is the same price from volvo so why spend the money on the tool when volvo dosent require you to have? too many variables to have this discussion with you about anyways...
