2005 crf450x from Colorado.   Little use, probably under 50 hours.     Never seen mud or water, it's very clean.

Issues.... Hasn't been run since 2009 and has old gas in the tank.   Jetted for 9000 feet and needs a battery.   So, I need to clean the carb, rejet, get a battery, spark plug  and check the valves.

Came with a new set of tires uninstalled, trail tech computer uninstalled, aluminum  radiator guards/braces, skid plate and some other shit.

rode one of those in mexico, great motor, valves can be an issue

The cam cover has never been off, with luck all I'll have to do is shim as long as everything is okay. Otherwise stainless valves and new springs are going in either now or at some point down the road.  It definitely isn't the "set and forget" valves of my XR or EX.

Forgot to grab a picture, but picked up a 2007 WR250F last weekend. It's pretty much exactly what I'd hoped it would be. An improved TTR250. Lost the off-idle torque, but gained a ton of midrange and top end. Lighter. Nifty factory trail computer. Electric start, factory headlight and tail light. And everything about the way it rides is better.

80's tech vs this century.  The only negative on the newer hi-po 4-strokes is the amount of proactive maintenance needed and the titanium valves.  I don't understand why stainless valves aren't stock, 90% aren't going to see or recognize any benefit from titanium valves.  I don't mind working on shit, but hate dicking with valves.

I rebuilt the carb on the 450...complete bitch all around from removal to reinstalling it.  Broke a fuel line while flushing out the tank, ordered two new lines today so I'll have it running for the weekend.  At least I hope so.  Valves are IN SPEC, thank god.

Gas in the tank was green and the smell was horrifying, the carb got varnished pretty bad.  Bought an All Balls rebuild kit and replaced everything in it back to stock lower altitude specs.  Would not care to do that again and makes working on my old Xr similar to working on a lawnmower, as in very simple and accessible.  All I have left to do is put the tank on, fire it up and change the oil and filter.

I was also on the look out for a CRF250X but was happy to find the Yamaha because of the valve stories I'd read about the CRF's. I have a feeling a lot of it is overblown, or related to some early troubles that spoiled their reputation. My reliability bar has been set high. That poor TTR250 has had the shit beat out of it, with very little love put back in to it  It keeps on trucking.

How do you like the way the 450 feels? Seems like those bikes got a lot more attention in the late 2000's. I've never ridden one, but I feared it'd be a little to heavy and overpowered for the tighter stuff I like to ride.

I haven't ridden it yet, I need the two fuel lines to show up hopefully tomorrow.

I know it's 75lbs lighter than the one it's replacing.

The 450x....

I cleaned and completely rebuilt the carb, everything new right to factory specs.  It ran mega-lean and like shit at that, I couldn't get it to run right at all let alone stay running. The pipe was glowing red with the choke on, wouldn't idle with it off no matter what and was just generally shitty.   So I said fuck it and took it in to a local shop.  They spent a few hours dicking around with way different jetting and got it right.  It's running richer now, as it should.  I rode it up and down the street a few times, I'll probably take it out this weekend.

Finally back to this thread, hopefully going to hold onto this one longer than the previous two. Just bought this guy, a 1979 Honda CB750F Super (Duper) Sport.

I'll probably rode it through the 2017 season and then tear it down next winter for a full rebuild and Cafe package.
