I have a guy that wants to trade me his 05 Honda 919 for my CRF.  He wants to ride with his kids and doesn't have time for the 919, I ride with my kids but only on my quad since they ride slow.  I'm going to take him up on it since I'll rarely ride the CRF and the 919 is worth more and I can actually ride it everyday if I want.

Now that our nephew lives with us I'm going to hunt down a Polaris Phoenix or something like that for him to ride.

Buy his 919 for cheap and keep the CRF. Then get the kids two wheeled vehicles so they can stop being slow  Rode my WR for the first time this year and it was amazing.

Aren't those 919's supposed to be like the ZRX? Retired racer's ride of choice?

Yeah they seem to be the predecessor to what we now know as the naked sportbike from what I understand. It's a more upright and relaxed riding position with the same (not identical) power delivery and similar braking and suspension components as it's super-sport counterpart.

Call me old, but that's why I'm looking at picking up an FZ-10 for sport touring in the next year or so. It's a sport-inspired bike with plenty of power (same crossplaned inline 4 as the current R1) but is very comfortable and has tons of aftermarket for touring accessories like bags and whatnot.

All of our ORV trails in Michigan are sand and the off-road parks are sand and pea gravel.  The actual single-track MC trails up north aren't all sand but aren't family friendly at all. Aside from that they're 8 and 11, my 11 year old rides good but my 8 year old needs more time.  Kid's bikes are terrible in sand and we go back to the same situation we were in when I was on a bike....I can't go slow in the sand with them.   We have thousands of miles of trails but they're mostly sand.

I'm just at that point in life where I've realized what I shouldn't be doing...and that's getting on yet another dirt bike.  I'm comfy on my 400ex and the kids are comfy on their quads.

919 and zrx are about the same mostly.  I enjoy riding my V-star but sometimes want something that hauls ass more so it would fill a void.

This showed up today.    Guy texted me last night and came by today.  I don't really need this but the crf wasn't fitting in anywhere.

Is that green factory? I like it. Such a simple vehicle. No one needs it but it's a lot more fun than the wrangler.

It's factory.   I need to get it plated this week and ride it legally.

The Wrangler...the only time I drive it is to go to the sand dunes or up north to go off-roading.   It's alright, reliable and cheap to maintain but it's a steel box.  She drives it all the time and she loves it so I guess that's good for her, probably reminds her of when she was a cheerleader or some shit like that.

Did you end up getting any seat time? I'm in the middle of selling my CB750F and have an SV650, FZ6, and 919 staring at me. I'm leaning towards the FZ because it'll make a good sport-tourer, but the SV is cheaper (and I've had one in the past with zero complaints) and the 919 just seems like a badass little bike. All three are about the same price.

Thoughts?

My friend had to jump off his blue 2002 sv650 a few weeks back when a woman pulled out in front of him at 35mph. He put the bike under her car and landed in the grass luckily... he also always wears protective everything even when its hot out... its now totaled and he is picking up a yellow one (sv650) Sunday with me! He calls it his look-a-like ducati monster lol

I hate to be 'that' guy, but if he had time to jump off, he probably had time to stop. Unless you mean he abandoned ship about as contact happened. Either way glad whatever he did worked out. Wearing gear in the heat can be annoying, but there's options that make it way more comfortable like mesh materials and zipper venting. Helps with the dehydration and leather skin too.

Soooo... when you gonna get one? Try sitting on any bike you have the opportunity and think about how you like the ergonomics. An upright position with a slight lean forward and pegs directly under you for torso control is arguably ideal for normal usage.

I'd rather have the 900 over any 600-650 but they're all good bikes with that ideal riding position...I hate leaning forward.  I thought about a V-strom last year before I bought my Yamaha but wanted something with a low seat height for the kids.  The problem with the Yamaha is I ride it like I would anything else, they tend not to pull over bikes in Michigan so I'm balls out on it all the time.

Which Yamaha is this again?

Agreed though. I ended up picking up an 08 FZ6 with 84xx miles on it last night and am really happy with the riding position. It might need a Corbin seat down the road and some better bars, but everything else is exactly what you said: ideal.

Rode it an hour home from Buffalo with nothing but blue skies and country roads, man was that everything I needed. I'm excited to get more seat time this weekend, but am pretty happy with the power delivery the bike has, which makes me happy I didn't go with the 919. It's a nice, torquey motor below 6k but not obnoxious, and at 8k it turns into an entirely different bike. Suffice it to say I'll be staying below 8k for a little while so I can get used to being back on a modern bike again. I got to the top of 2nd last night and was just shy of triple digits...not the kind of power I'm used to, especially after coming off of my '79 CB750.

I'm transferring my plate on my lunch break, I'll post some pics once I get it cleaned up.

This is why I bought my first SV650. I feel like they were designed to compete directly with the Monster.
