Unlock Att Iphone Help

Ok, first off, anybody helping, please assume i know nothing and have 0 computer skills.

i'm attempting to sell an old IPHONE to Gazelle.

if i unlock, i get an extra 30 bucks. Unlocking seems easy enough, but here's my problem.

Its an old phone that i don't have a sim card in. I let the kids use it for games off WIFI etc.

To do it through ATT they want the Cell number, that number is now on a different working phone. If they unlock that number, the good phone might not work or it may become a shit show.

So how do i unlock a working phone, but no sim card?

All you need is this, Mike. Assuming you actually have fulfilled the 2 year contract with it:

https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/

Don't worry about the cell #, it's the IMEI you need. You can find it by opening the dialer and dialing *#06# (don't forget the star) or opening Settings>General>About. Got an email from mine about 15 min after I submitted it.

Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your AT&T Mobile device.

I"m sure the problem is the phone number doesn't match the MEI #.

damn it.

It shouldn't matter. At least I can't see why it would. Phone number should only be used to locate your account, since you can swap SIM's to any device you want. IMEI is the one true thing that white lists the phone. The phone was, at one point, tied to your account right?

oh yeah, i've had the phone since the day 4s first came out so clearly its years old.

the phone was originally registered to my number, than took sim out to play. Then get a sim and put onto wives family plan for son with NEW phone number.

i entered his number with MEI

The problem isnt that the IMEI isnt associated with a number. its that its no longer on the account

You can call them and tell them your daughter will be traveling with school for the semester and they need the phone unlocked so they can use different sim's in different countries that the school will be providing.

They usually add the IMEI to your account and unlock it...... But and this is a big but, Ive only done this with our corporate AIG att acount and have never done a personal account as I dumped ATT 5 years ago
